FREEP THIS POLL!! HIT THE GUN-GRABBERS HARD!! ONLY A COUPLE OF HOURS LEFT!
Cool Site Of The Day ^ | 29 June 03 | Me

Posted on 06/29/2003 9:09:55 PM PDT by Mr. Silverback

The Cool Site of The Day for June 29th is Pax.com. Pax's stated mission is to advocate non-political solutions to gun violence. That's funny, because the site reads like a Sarah Brady handout; they've even got the "10 children killed by guns every day" disinformation right on the front page! Though they rightly encourage kids to report any guns they know about at school, they are also the organizers of ASK, a campaign to get parents all over America to ask their neighbors whether they own a gun, and they are partnering with the American Academy of Pediatrics to get more and more citizens and authority figures sticking their nose in your 2nd Amendment business. (Why not ask if there are swimming pools, power tools or 5-gallon plastic buckets in my house? All of those are far more dangerous than a properly stored firearm!)

If you go to the source link above, the PAX site will appear in a frame. There's a drilldown menu in the center of the frame that allows you to vote on a 1 to 10 scale, with 10 being the highest. Their rating was 4.046 when I voted, so let's all give them a 1 and see if we can drive them into 2 or 3 territory!

I just tried to go there using your link and was refused. Then I copied and pasted the address and tried that route. Refused again.

The site appears to be down. Either that or they took it offline to keep the anti-RKBA site's ratings high. No way of telling, but it sure seems damned peculiar...

FROM THE DOCTOR'S OFFICE TYPE FLYER [BARF] (at http://www.pax.com ):

USE THE FACTS
Over 40% of homes with children
have a gun and many of those
guns are left unlocked and loaded.
That’s why you’re asking the
question - you just want to make
sure that your child is safe.

DON’T BE CONFRONTATIONAL
Present your concerns in a
respectful manner. You are simply
trying to make sure your child
is playing in a safe environment.

ASK WITH OTHER QUESTIONS
Include the question along with
other things you might normally
discuss before sending your child
to someone’s house, such as seat
belts, animals or allergies.

WORK THROUGH GROUPS
Introduce the ASK concept
through a group or community
effort, such as your religious
organization or PTA.

From now on, when my children go to play at someone else's house, I will make sure they DO have a gun and are experienced with its use, so that they can keep my children safe from people who may intend to harm them.

Here's the dope on this poll freep: I looked in my email box this morning and the Cool Site Of The Day alert email for the 30th was sent to me just a few minutes after I posted this thread. Looking at some of their other emails, this is consistent with the usual time of day they are sent on weekends. Therefore, I think you guys ran into a roadblock because they were changing over to the next day's site. They now have this idiotic site up that's designed to prove that not all Asians look alike. Well, duh!

The PAX site does not yet have a coolness rating yet. It sometimes takes two weeks or more to show up on the "StillCool Archive" page, and right now they've only updated it as far as June 6th. The 4.046 that was there when I voted is quite low. Only about 10% of the sites get less than a 4.2 rating. I think that the fact that so many people find this stuff intrusive even if they are non-gun owners and the fact that the site is not all that well designed drove the rating down.

Well, thanks for trying, folks. And BTW, the last time (as far as I know) that we did a CSOTD freep, we got OOH-RAH Magazine into the sevens. Go Marines!

What is the Eddie Eagle Program?

The Eddie Eagle GunSafe Program teaches elementary school children four important steps to take if they find a gun. These steps are presented by the program's mascot, Eddie Eagle, in an easy-to-remember format consisting of the following simple rules:

If you see a gun:
STOP!
Don't Touch.
Leave the Area.
Tell an Adult.

This program, specifically designed for young children from pre-kindergarten through six grade, was developed through the combined efforts of such qualified professionals as clinical psychologists, reading specialists, teachers, curriculum specialists, urban housing safety officials, and law enforcement personnel.
The Eddie Eagle Program is used by schools, law enforcement agencies and other groups and organizations concerned with the safety of children. Materials available through this program include student workbooks, 7-minute animated video, CD-ROM, instructor guides, posters, and student reward stickers.

The NRA is committed to helping keep America's young children safe. In efforts to do so, we offer our program at a nominal fee. Schools, law enforcement agencies, hospitals, daycare centers, and libraries may be eligible to receive grant funding to defray program costs. Grant funding is available in many states to these groups to cover the cost of all program curriculum materials.

The purpose of The Eddie Eagle GunSafe Program isn't to teach whether guns are good or bad, but rather to promote the protection and safety of children.

Eddie Eagle neither offers nor asks for any value judgment concerning firearms. Like swimming pools, electrical outlets, matchbooks and household poison, they're treated simply as a fact of life. With firearms found in about half of all American households, it's a stance that makes sense.

Eddie Eagle is never shown touching a firearm, nor does he appear where firearms are being used or sold. He does not promote firearm ownership or use. The NRA does not receive any appropriations from Congress, nor is it a trade organization. It is not affiliated with any firearm or ammunition manufactures or with any businesses that deals in guns and ammunition.

The NRA is trying save lives with knowledge and facts...

Here's an update on the PAX freep: the Pax site's final rating was 3.929, the lowest any site received in the month of June. Right now we're Freeping Coll Site again to get OO-rah Magazine the Cool Site of the Month prize. That thread is here.
