Try Young Republicans, College Republicans or Young Americans for Freedom.
So who won the debate?

I had a terrible time in college with speeches...I was lucky enough to have an outstanding professor...She told me when I was giving a speech to look out at the audience and imagine they were all naked ! It sounds funny but it really did help me relax...

Congratulations.
Sounds like you did just fine.
Every speech you give will improve your confidence and experience, which will allow you to relax more, and allow your mind to run far enough ahead of your spoken words, so that you can make adjustments to your words, which words you emphasize, etc., on-the-fly as your speech progresses.
I remember my first speech at a military school. The night before, I developed a sore throat (finally convinced myself that is was just mental). I went ahead with the speech and was sure that it wasn't a very good speech. Surprisingly, I won the school's speech award. (Not bragging, just pointing out that you can't always be sure about a self-evaluation).
Keep up the good work.
Besides, you will always have the best basis for any argument when you are starting from the conservative versus the liberal position.

IMO, it sounds like you did a respectable job.
Public speaking isnt so much knowledge, or intelligence its familiarity and experience.
You can take a person with 10 public speaking appearances and put him up against at person with 100 public appearances and its usually no contest. Just take your lumps and move on. Ten years from now youll be a professional nobody will touch you.
If you are really into public speaking, look up your local Toastmasters and go to work. (I didnt, but my dad always gave speeches and said that was his best advice for people that wanted to do that sort of thing.) They tend to place importance on time management and thought organization
among other things.
Good Luck.
