The figure of Christ is arresting, the stern judge casting sinners into into hell. That is not a Jesus who appeals to some Catholics, I think. Interesting generalization. I thought the stereotype was Catholics holding hell out to its adherents as a warning not to sin.
In other words, where are you coming from with this particular assertion? If you know some Catholics who you perceive to be as you say, please refrain from characterizing all as you describe.

As to your statement that the scriptures are rarely followed and that the poster is an exception,Point of clarification: As to your statement that the scriptures are rarely followed BY CATHOLICS...

Jerry Falwell and Pat Robertson are among the most vilified people on FR threads. You must not read many. Conservatives shouldn't be bashing them. Or Israel. Or the Holy Father (I say to Catholic-bashers: LOOK at the leadership and steadfastness of the Church on the issue of abortion.)
That said, a cursory review of threads will find great numbers of "Freepers" bashing Falwell, Robertson, Dr. Laura and anyone who stands up for God and Biblical morality.

Thanks for the heads up. I've been trying to keep my expectations within reason. I'm glad that's no longer necessary.
THIS MOVIE WILL BE A BLOCKBUSTER.

I attend a Pentecostal church and I am jazzed that this movie was made. I cannot wait to see it. Whatever doctrinal quibbles I may have with Catholicism are minor compared to our mutual worship of Christ.

One last candle in the massive darkness of humanity... Thank you, Mr. Cheerful...

Let me add: There are two readings during Mass plus a reading from the Gospel, during which the congregation standsDon't forget the Responsorial Psalm. That would be FOUR Scripture readings at Sunday Mass, plus whatever Bible verse is used with the Alleluia.
FYI for the Protestants: Daily Mass has one reading, a Psalm, then the Alleluia and the Gospel, for a total of three. That's how we go through the whole Bible in three years.

I don't pretend to understand the need for intercessory prayer at all - though it is clearly shown in the Bible - Where two or more are gathered in His name, there He is also. Intercessory prayer helps to unite and strengthen the mystical Body of Christ. Such prayer strengthens our "horizontal" relationship with Christ.

No, but feel free to say "I told you so" as much as you want if I'm wrong.
I might even return the favor ;-)

I think the majority of Pentecostals will just be glad a movie has been made about Jesus that remains fairly true to Scripture. Most of us can deal with some poetic license so long as it doesn't diminish Him as portrayed in the Gospels.

Every Christian needs to see this film at least once. Just to remember, in our current comfort zones while evil is closing in, the price that was paid... this is exactly what Mel said he wanted to portray in this film.

Looking forward to seeing this. I've always liked Gibson's work (esp. in his version of Hamlet)Dittos. This is selfish of me, but I hope this film leads to the DVD release of Hamlet -- definitely one of the best Hamlets and one of the best Gibson films.
