Let's see....Monte Carlos and some Chev pickups are built in Oshawa, Ont., Intrepids are built in Brampton, Ont., some Dodge trucks are built in Saltillo, Mex. and The Dodge van I used to have was built in Windsor. My Toyota Tundra which is, so far, the best truck I've ever owned was made in Indiana and these are going to race in the Craftsman truck series next season. So, what's American and what isn't? Gentlemen, just start your freakin' engines!

"It's Time To Tell NASCAR How We Feel About Toyota"
Dear NASCAR,
I think Toyotas are great, especially the ones built in the USA. I certainly hope the NASCAR drivers aren't scared of a little "outside" competition. If you're gonna let gay guys drive cars, why not Japanese? Some people have said NASCAR doesn't want Toyotas in NASCAR because of WWII. If that was true it would follow that all the races and racers would be in and from the north because of what happened during the War of Northern Agression. Jeez, talk about "still fighting the war!"
Thanks, and by the way, I'm much more concerned about you letting Jeese Jackson get his racist foot in the door than anything the folks from Nippon might do.
STILL FOR FIREBALL ROBERTS
. . .just to mention a few, began this sport on the beaches of Florida and North Carolina, as well as dirt tracks in North Carolina."
Actually, it began when the started hopping up the engines in cars running whiskey during Prohibition.

My Ford pickup was assembled in Canada.
If you really want to boycott NASCAR for something, do it for how they paid off Jesse Jackson.

Toyota is having big problems. First is that they are having a hard time finding a foundery to make cast iron engine blocks. Second is that none of their enginners have ever worked on a carburator. Both those technologies went away with 8-tracks for Toyota. Their early US race engines for CART and IMSA were known to have a short fuse and were finicky when they did run. Look at their effort in F1 and their past history in US racing and it will probably take them several years to be competitive.

Oh, please. Spare me the "redneck pride." There's no such thing as a 'Mericun car anymore.
Between Ford's marriage to Jaguar, Rolls Royce, Volvo & Mazda, Chrysler's marriage to Daimler, GM jumping in bed with Saab; and let's not forget the numbers of "foreign" cars that are built with American labor on American soil - from Honda to Nissan to Subaru to Toyota...
And finally, if NASCAR fans can't handle any competition from overseas, how can anyone take their claims about competition on the oval seriously?
You want to be best in the world? And are you serious about it? Then, go out on the oval and compete head to head and prove it.

No longer will NASCAR be an American sport. Perhaps the author can now sympathize with the way the Europeans felt about an American team in the World Cup tournament.

It NOT about where the cars are made. Its about where the profits go. Toyota's may be made in the US but their parts suppliers are all from japan.
Has anyone gone to a new car search engine and looked for an "american" car category? They don't even offer the option.
I am grateful I don't live in a country where trebi is the only option. I DO want to see a USA only match.
(I am still in mourning because Lincoln made the towncar look like a large melted marshmellow)

I love my FORD. It took Asian imports in the late 80's to snap the American cars into shape. I welcome the chance to put American engines head-to-head with those of other countries. If we are the best, we should welcome it.

The redneck attitude of this article is distinctly unamerican. Not to mention ignorant, racist and unchristian.

Some people are just afraid to lose to a non American whether it's a car race, a motorcycle drag race, a job, anything.

Why is this a big deal? If Toyota is superior and wins races that might be the "face slap" it takes to improve the U.S. car industry.
Competition is a good thing.

First, Who cares about Nascar, it's more boring than golf.
Second, Buying a Japanese car is in some ways more patriotic than buying an American car:
a. Higher gas mileage means less money for the anti-Americans in the middle east.
b. When we buy a Chevy, Ford, or Dodge, we are helping the UAW/Democrat Union.
To: Provost-Marshal
This is just soooo stupid.
If they only want American-made stock cars, maybe someone should form the National Association for American-Made Stock Car Auto Racing (NAAMSCAR). As it stands right now, the arguments for keeping Toyota out are just plain stupid.

they're just scared that toyota's are going to mop the floor with all the other manufacturers. it won't happen the first year but i will guarantee the toyo's will dominate the trucks and the busch/cup cars.

What fun to mention is that both Toyota and NASCAR pay Jesse Jackson hush money.
