Comical Ali is alive and living in a Baghdad suburb - and still wearing his trademark uniform and beret, according to reports.
The Mail on Sunday said it had tracked down the former Iraqi information minister, ending speculation he had committed suicide or fled the country.
The newspaper said it found him "cowering in his modest home, terrified his own people will kill him".
They said his wife and daughter act as his human shields while his sons had temporarily left their jobs as doctors to help protect him.
The paper described Ali - full name Mohammed Saeed Al-Sahaf - as "a broken man, spending his days pacing his study in his uniform and green beret".
He refused to talk to the paper and friends said he may never go out in public again.
"The family are worried he is going out of his mind", it reported one friend as saying.
Al-Sahaf was dubbed Comical Ali after his outrageous denials of the US-led advance into Iraq.
He told the world there were no US troops in Baghdad while TV viewers watched American tanks roll through the Iraqi capital's streets.

He just needs to write to SNL and ask to do a cameo. They'd hire him. Heck, they may be able to do a satellite "LIVE from BAGHDAD, IT'S SATURDAY NIGHT." Or, my hubby's idea was to have a fake break up between Ozzy and Sharon, and do an episode where Ozzy has to take in a roommate --- it's Baghdad Bob!!!
Before long, we'd make him a cult star here in America! Then, he could pay a bunch of taxes on all that money he'd earn, and we'd get back some of the crap we took because of him...kinda like a weird "work program."

Wasn't there a report at one time that he had tried to turn himself in, but that nobody was interested?

"The American press is all about lies! All they tell is lies, lies and more lies!" (well, he has a point there)
"Our initial assessment is that they will all die"
"I triple guarantee you, there are no American soldiers in Baghdad."

I read a report where Iraq's think Monica Lewinski is one hot babe. I say we trade Monica for Bagdad Bob.
Heck trade Bill Clinton for Saddam Hussian as well.

Nah, I reckon they would like to pick him up, camp life being rather dull the troops could use some comic relief!

I knew he was alive! I just knew it. He could come over here and market UINFIDEL MILK from FRIVOLOUS COW FARMS. With his face on the carton, everyone would buy it. hahaha.
To: Oldie
You are correct. He tried to turn himself in to the American military and was rejected. He was looking for safety from his fellow Iraqi's.

It's too bad Shakespear isn't around to write this guys story. A naive man joins a brutal regime where he finds himself an abused outsider, still he believes in the essential goodness of the regime. His job is lie, and it he takes it seriously, so seriously he believes them a little too much. Finally he's left to tell the most outlandish lies of all as the regime falls around him. Then he's left to pace his study in his uniform. The Iraqis hate him because he was a Ba'athist the Americans aren't interested because he was just a cog. And so he slowly falls into madness.
I have no idea how much of that is true. But there's a great story in there.

One of my favorite Baghdad Quotes:
April 5, 2003
"They are not near Baghdad. Don't believe them
. They said they entered with
tanks in the middle of the capital. They claim that they I tell you, I
that this speech is too far from the reality. It is a part of this sickness of their plan. There is no an... no any existence to the American troops or for the troops in Baghdad at all."
