I would bet money that no other NYT reporter made such comments, especially about the children.

You're absolutely right; this assh*le is lying through his teeth. When I worked at ABC and CNN, anyone who made comments like that in the newsroom would have, at the very LEAST, been hauled off for "sensitivity training." But more importantly, that's just not the way people that work in New York newsrooms think. That sort of crap is completely abhorrent to them.

There is a lot of mordid, tasteless humor in newsrooms - plane crash jokes, shuttle jokes, etc. But jokes about child rape and race? Not a chance in hell.
