Good teachers are desparately needed. So sorry to hear of your daughter's layoff? The 25,000 layoffs should be administrative staff. I lived in Ventura until several years ago and my best friends were elementary, high school and community college teachers. The problem is more the administrative and support staff and their enormous salaries. This is were the cuts should begin. Also all huge amount of money going for non-English speaking students. For a fact, the teachers salaries and benefits were amazing to me. One friend, the part-time community college lab instructor/monitor made $40 an hour!

But if you included all children who derived there status from illegal immigration since 1950 that number would be approximately 45%.If their parents were paying the same in taxes that the non-immigrants are paying, then there would be enough money coming in. The problem with third world immigration is they just don't have the job skills to be self-sufficient so the costs must be picked up by fewer and fewer taxpayers.

Yup. No doubt about it, California's problem is definately one of under Taxation. Spending is NOT the problem. \sarcasm.

The "university" here has 60% of it's students in remedial classes ---many of whom receive financial aid ---they like the status of saying they attend a university and since they aren't paying themselves, they choose it over the community college that also has remedial classes but at a much less expensive rate.

One friend, the part-time community college lab instructor/monitor made $40 an hour! That is per credit hour , a 4hr credit course taught 2 hrs twice a week nets 8 times 40 or 160 dollars per week times 18 weeks yields 5760 for the full semester. Of course you must prepare and grade tests do some paperwork, handle special students etc. Its about minimum wage for actual hours worked for me! I teach remedial math at local Community colleges!
But I like doing it, nice supplement to retirement pay!

"Educate" if CA is like my small town that is a fantasy. In grade school we have loads of immigrant children straight from the 19th century with no English skills and our district bends over backwards to make them fit in to no avail. By high school graduation the class looks lily white since all these kids have moved on or dropped out for various reasons.

"I've seen with my own eyes a college graduate have to sit and use a pencil and paper to figure out the average between 44 and 46 ----add together and divide by two."
If true, there are a couple of future-effect implications to what you are reporting:
1) Expect an increase in the age of retirement beyond that what we have previously been prepared for. (They will sell this by celebrating our improved longevity).
2) In 2020, get a good warranty or buy from stores that have a good returns policy.
C) Something else so this equals a couple things.
