Without a resolution, "Canada will not participate," Chrétien said to cheers in Parliament.
Good grief they've got nothing to participate anyway, so what's the big deal. That's not necessarily a knock to the Canadiens, but let's face it, they spend more money on hockey rinks than they do on the military.

Canada has reduced itself to the sweetheart standing on the platform waving her hanky as the troop train pulls out of the station.

I say let the boycott of Quebec begin -
but please don't punish the good people and businesses of BC and Alberta - both are marvelously wonderful vacation destinations!

I can hear them in the Pentagon War Room now: "Oh No! The Canadian's aren't going to send troops! The campaign is doomed! Better pull out now, rather than risk going forward without the Canadians on board!"

...and in a related story, Jean Chrétien telephoned Bob and Charlene Dinwiddy of South Hedgehog Falls, ID, to inform them that he also refuses to participate in their bridge night next Thursday.

"PM says Canada will not fight in Iraq"So they're not going to send their 8 soldiers and a case of Labatts. I think we can get along without 'em, eh?
To: areafiftyone
Chrétien saying Canada will not participate in Iraq is about as 'breaking' as Jaques or Villien saying Fance will veto another resolution.

I'm a transplanted Canadian living in the US. There is anti-American sentiment ALL OVER Canada. Not just from this incident, but for quite some time now. I have been pro-US all my life, and was quite tired of hearing all the self-righteous and "moral" opinions on Americans. Canada is a country that has been riding the proverbial fence. The reason why they have never been a target of terrorism is because no one knows who they are. They never take a stand on anything except hockey and medicinal marijuana. Sometimes both at once.
You don't need Canada anyway, trust me. They'll brag about how their beer is better. That's all they have to brag about.
