By the time you add up all the taxes, it would be closer to 60 or 70% at least. Maybe even more.

Income tax. Sales tax. Phone connection tax. Liquor and luxury taxes. Real estate taxes. And a lot of this stuff is double taxed, because of corporate taxes.

Plus you have your social security taxes, which give back a very poor return at the end of the day.

I've often thought that medieval serfs did rather better from a percentage point of view. Plus they had job security.

Very nice summation. That's exactly where we are today. Serfs to the aristocracy. And we do have an aristocracy. We allowed it to birth itself and then thrive.
