Did you ever think Jack Straw would be slapping down the French ambassador in the Security Council, and GET APPLAUSE?It has been amazing, MM. I'm turning into a rabid fan of a pair of British Laborites. This sitzkreig is certainly revealing true character.

You know Miss Marple, you bring up an excellent point.
If we who are aiming the weapons are antsy at this point, imagine how the targets feel.
I trust President Bush to act when he feels the time is right. There are more considerations than we know or want to know. That's why he gets the big bucks.
Great Post, Sir Ivan.

Pity the poor Iraqi official who had to explain to the guy that the orphanage has already got all the human shields it needs: they're called "orphans". Brilliant! This guy can write... the above points out the complete cultural superiority complex of the bigoted "liberals" - they think their lives are more valuable than those of Iraqi soldiers, and than those of Iraqi children.
Ultimately, a "human shield" is a voluntary hostage, but I would suspect only a very few if any of them were quite sick enough to go for such a role consciously: most are simply deluded into thinking one westerner is worth 1000 foreigners, the precise philosophy of the false adversary they imagine when caricaturing conservatives.
TV is a poor substitute for an education.

The male "nudes for peace" stood around wearing their boxer shorts and, worse, little white ankle socks and sneakers. C'mon, guys, why so shy about letting us inspect your weapons of mass destruction? Maybe it's because they didn't have the launch capability to penetrate a "no-fly" zone...
(sorry, I just couldn't resist...)

I give! What does "ROTFLMAOASTD" mean? I understand everything through "ROTFLMAO" but the "ASTD" has me stumped. I even tried to look it up in three acronym dictionaries.
It's driving me nuts that I can't figure this out. (I'm sure I'll slap myself in the forehead and say, "DUH!" when you tell me.)
Thanks for ending my torment...

I tried to explain this attitude of the human shields to a very intelligent, but liberal, relative. He could not see that the western interloper had an inflated impression of his own importance - that HIS body would cause coordinates to be changed, when otherwise American bombs would target ORPHANS!
I said the attitude was basically racist - since white skin was worth more than brownish skin - in the mind of the HS. My b-i-l could not agree with me, but he did relent and say the attitude could possibly be elitist!
Yet this same b-i-l has no problem projecting all kinds of elitist motives on to conservatives.

Anyone from the Saturday Nite Live staff listening? This is perfect fodder for a skit. Everyone gets worn out waiting for the war!
Saddam's ninety years old, countries at the U.N. have changed names (France's vetoe doesn't matter, there is no France anymore), protesters get too old, throw down signs in disgust etc....
Of course that would only illuminate that there is no rush to war.

Funniest (and truest) article I've read in many months.
