WHAT: Demonstration and Press Conference announcing boycott of French Products.
Highlighted by Dumping French wine in the gutter.

WHEN:
Los Angeles (All times Pacific)
Friday, March 7, 2003 at 12:00 Noon
Press Conference at 1:00 PM

New York (all times Eastern)
Friday, March 7, 2003 1:00

WHERE: French Consulate in Los Angeles
10990 Wilshire Boulevard
This is at the corner of Wilshire and Veteran, just east of the 405. The consulate is across the street from the Federal Building.

French Consulate in New York

WHY:

On March 7, the US will introduce yet another resolution to the U.N. This should be the last chance for France and the U.N. to join forces with us in defeating tyranny. We want to show France that the United States people do not need permission from them nor from the U.N. to protect ourselves from the threats of nuclear and biological weapons.

France has been given every opportunity to prove that they are with us. Instead, they have shown and again that they are against us. We are going to be dumping their wine in the gutter to initiate a boycott against French products and show the French diplomats at the consulate where their wine really belongs.

NOTES:

Please note the new time, 12:00 noon.

If you are planning the demonstration, please RSVP by sending email to cmorgan@calyaf.com.

Please bring a bottle (or bottles) of French wine to dump in the gutter. We will not be able to provide a bottle for everyone attending. Lets have full participation in the dumping so that we can show the French an entire block of people dumping their precious wine down the drain. If you need ideas on where to find cheap French wine, please call 714-658-2190.

The UCLA Bruin Republicans have joined us as an event Co-Sponsor.

The New York YAF chapter has announced that they will join us in front of the French Consulate in New York at 1:00 Eastern Time. If you have any questions regarding the New York demonstration, contact newyorkyaf@aol.com

If you need transportation to the demonstration, we can try and put you in contact with someone in your area who is driving up to Los Angeles. We have caravans coming from San Diego, Orange County, the Inland Empire, Santa Barbara, as well as all parts of Los Angeles County.

What a waste. They could have used the wine in their toilet tanks to save on water usually used for flushing.

What could be stupider than this? They must buy the wine, before they dump it. Right?

Way to go! But, I hope they didn't buy the wine...needs to be dumped from the harbor, before anyone buys it...that way the French get no profit.

If you are pouring out $1,000 a bottle wine...the French will laugh themselves silly, having made a hefty profit on each bottle poured!

Boycotts do not work unless you get to the BUYERS and DISTRIBUTORS. Dumping the wine is not going to stop the buyers, especially after you PAID for it.. The buyers don't care if you drink it or dump it, as long as you buy it, is what matters to them....

Yes, they should be buying American wine and drinking it in the gutter in front of the French consulate.

If you're looking for cheap French wine, I highly recommend La Maison Sutter and La Ferme de Boone.

Seriously, this is a great idea and I'm glad these folks are following through. Evocative of the Tea Party, of course, and not the one in Wonderland.

Buy a bottle of good CA wine, drink it to the last drop, then paste a big label on it: "VIN" -- fill it with water and bingo! you're ready to rally.

Question: Why did they build the chunnel under the English channel?

Answer: It makes it easier for the French government to flee to London.

Dumping wine you've already paid for is just a symbolic gesture. What we have to do is encourage others not to buy any more French or German products, not to visit any of the countries that oppose us, and write letters to those countries' tourist authorities and political leaders, telling them why we won't put another penny (or Euro) in their pockets.

True if I've already spent the money, the product is now mine. As a matter of fact if it's on the shelf in the US, the producer already has the money, at which point you are boycotting the retailer. It takes a while for a boycott to hit the people you're trying to boycott when an ocean is involved.

This past weekend I noticed nearly all the French wines on display at our local supermarket were on sale ... and still aren't selling. Someone advanced the theory on another thread that by not buying French wine we are only hurting the local distributor ... perhaps, but by boycotting French wine the distributor won't be placing replacement orders. Bottom line, if French wine isn't moving in the U.S. it won't be long before French wineries begin to feel the pain.

May I suggest you dump tinted water as a "symbolic" gesture against the purchase of French products. To actually buy the wine, defeats your purpose.

There you go! A good symbolic gesture calls for symbolic French wine. Fill an empty bottle with swamp water and slap that "Vin Francais" label on it.

Quick Ideas:

They need to also get someone to

a) translate their press release ASAP into French;

b) get the press release (w/ follow up calls) to the French press, including reporters for Le Monde, Liberation, AFP, AT2 and what not, stationed in L.A.

The French will report and film it with gusto; it will be aired back in France for many French to see.

AND, isn't that the desired point, too?! Put signs in French, too!
