LONDON, March 3 (Reuters) - Kuwait said on Monday it would accept U.S. troops who had been intended for deployment in Turkey after the Turkish parliament refused to let them into the country, the Kuwaiti defence minister said.

Kuwait already hosts tens of thousands of U.S. forces training in the Gulf Arab state for a possible attack on neighbouring Iraq.

The following outlines some of the main support offered to the United States for a possible war against Iraq:

AUSTRALIA - Australia has sent 2,000 troops to the Middle East. It has also sent jet fighters and warships but it has not said if it would join military action against Iraq.

BAHRAIN - Bahrain has been headquarters of the U.S. Fifth Fleet for decades.

BRITAIN - Britain has so far announced commitments of about 45,000 military personnel for a possible war on Iraq as well as naval vessels and aircraft.

BULGARIA - Bulgaria's cabinet granted the United States the use of the Sarafovo Black Sea airfield for refuelling, opened its skies to U.S. warplanes and sanctioned the dispatch of 150 troops to near Iraq to tackle non-conventional warfare threats such as chemical or biological attack.

CROATIA - Croatia agreed to open its airspace and airports for possible U.S. military action against Iraq, but only to civilian transport aircraft.

CZECH REPUBLIC - The Czech Republic has sent a 360-strong team of soldiers to Kuwait to treat people and equipment that have come into contact with chemical or biological agents.

HUNGARY - Hungary has agreed to host a training camp for Iraqi exiles who would accompany advancing international troops.

ITALY - Italy will offer logistical assistance and has given the United States authority to use military bases and ports in line with longstanding NATO commitments.

JORDAN - Jordan said on February 24 that several hundred U.S. troops were being deployed to run a newly delivered Patriot anti-missile system.

Jordan has also agreed to let the United States carry out search and rescue missions from its territory during any military operations in eastern Iraq, and has offered allied planes free passage through its airspace.

KUWAIT - Kuwait offered to host U.S. troops who had been intended to be deployed in Turkey. Kuwait is expected to be a jumping-off point for an invasion of Iraq.

OMAN - Base for Air Force bombers and AC-130 gunships used in the Afghanistan campaign. However Oman has said it would not join any U.S.-led war against Iraq.

PORTUGAL - Portugal has made NATO air bases and an air base in the mid-Atlantic Azores islands available.

QATAR - Qatar has provided a mobile headquarters for U.S. Central Command and has allowed the United States to expand an airfield to handle more combat jets.

ROMANIA - The country's Supreme Defence Council has agreed to deploy 278 troops, chiefly anti-chemical and anti-biological warfare units, as well as medics, engineers and military police. It has also opened its skies to U.S. warplanes.

SAUDI ARABIA - Saudi Arabia has allowed the United States and Britain to use its Prince Sultan Air Base to enforce the no-fly zone over southern Iraq.

SLOVAKIA - Slovakia's parliament agreed to deploy an anti-chemical and anti-biological warfare unit to the Gulf. It will send up to 75 soldiers.

SPAIN - Spain has promised Washington the use of bases for any strike on Iraq.

TURKEY - In a blow for U.S. military planners Turkey's parliament refused permission for deployment of over 60,000 American troops in the country thus blocking any U.S. attack on Iraq through Turkish territory. Turkey has already allowed the U.S. military to modernise some bases.

UAE - The UAE hosts some 3,000 troops. The country is used as a base by U.S. surveillance and refuelling aircraft.

UKRAINE - Ukraine has agreed to send a squad of soldiers specially trained to clean up chemical and nuclear contamination.

Scary, yes, but note that these units are from old Warsaw Pact nations. These armies know about chem weps since first strike usage was a given if the USSR had sent its forces west. These armies trained to operate in a chem environment since they knew they were going to use the weps.

I'm glad their expertise is on our side, especially since Saddam's arsenal bears Warsaw Pact point of origin stamps.

I have several acquaintances who are already, or will soon be, deployed over there. My thanks to those countries who are sending their specialists to help make sure as many come home as is possible.

The comment about Canada is unfair. I know quite a few Canucks who are more disgusted with their government as we could possibly be.

Russia has stated plainly that their concern lies in being paid the debts owed to them by Iraq. I got no problem with that.

China? I guess it's not in their back yard, and they have their own problems with Islamofascists.

Mexico ... there I have no idea. I did notice another post mentioning Chretien sucking up to them.

They could provide instructors in how to infiltrate enemy territory with large body of troops in the middle of the night without detection.
