The Greatest Example of Why Recording Artists/War Protesters Can Kiss My @#$!

Tonight at the 45th Annual Grammy’s Fred Durst stood in front of a packed Madison Square Garden, looked square into the cameras and announced to the world that he wished the war would, “go away.” I’ll keep this short and relatively sweet. As you remember I am an American soldier. I am also a trained Infantryman, and for those of you who still think a Bradley is a tank (Sorry baby I had to put this in) an Infantryman are the guys on the ground with the guns. Our mission is to close with and destroy the enemy. My father was an Infantryman. My brother still is. I was injured overseas, and now have a tube that goes into my bladder, and a plastic bag I crap into, so I know the end result of armed conflict better than 99.9% of the world. My brother may have to go fight the war. For a long time I’ve been forced to watch and listen to celebrities discuss their views on our current world situation and the current administrations policy vis a vis Iraq. It is beginning to feel like a personal assault. I despise the view of actors and actresses such as Martin Sheen, Danny Glover, and Susan Sarrandon. Specifically I despise the peace loving view of people who have acted in violence filled movies such as “Lethal Weapon” and “Apocalypse Now.” But it is their right. It is hypocritical enough when these men and women who glorify violence and gunplay on television speak out against a war and refer to the president (In the words of Danny Glover) “Liars, thieves, and murderers.” It was bad enough seeing a peace symbol around Sheryl Crow’s neck, and “No War” sewn onto her guitar strap, but my stomach almost jumped out of my body when Fred Durst made his comments tonight. This is after all the man involved in one of the most violent bands in history. He was involved with the riots at Woodstock. He has been sued for going into a fit of rage and throwing a microphone at a woman. More importantly are his lyrics.

These little exerts are from “Break Stuff” only one of Fred Durst many songs.

Everything is @$#%@, everybody sucks You don’t really know why But you wanna justify rippin someone’s head off

Feelin like a freight train First one to complain Leaves with a blood stain

All those mother&$^#%, they want to step up I hope ya know I pack a chainsaw I’ll skin your @$# raw

Give me something to break Just give me something to break How ‘bout your @$#%$ face.

I hope you know I pack a chainsaw, a @$#%$^%^ chainsaw, what Come and get it

Well isn’t that nice.

Mr. Durst I am an American soldier and I am proud of it. I have trained long and hard to learn everything there is to know about killing someone. However I dislike the idea of causing severe damage to others. I felt physically ill with each round I loaded into a magazine while we were flying toward Uzbekistan. I have friends who were injured in Operation Anaconda. We know violence. We know death. We despise it. We do not want a war because we sir, have to face it. Unlike you, with your mansions and your posse, and all the protection you have around you, we have to face the cruel realities of combat. Guess what bubba. We don’t like it. However we know when it is necessary. Next time make your actions count. Don’t feed us a line of crap on television so you can garner praise from your celeb buddies.

Until you stop lining your pockets by selling albums that glorify violence and you clean up your own act SHUT YOUR #$@!%^# MOUTH!

I can't name the last Danny Glover, Susan Sarandon, or Martin Sheen Movie. Limp Biskit is a joke and have all but broken up since their guitarist left. Why don't we hear Tiger Woods, Britney Spears, or anyone with a REAL name in Hollywood speaking out against the war? It's BLATENTLY a publicity stunt to get their names back in the news. I have no doubt in my mind they were all cowering on Sept. 12th saying "Boy I wish we had spent out tax money on intelligence rather than blowing it on that 12,000 acres of land in Utah to protect the endagered albino pygmy shrew". To paraphrase the best quote I can think of, "you provide the blanket of freedom they sleep under".

Durst is the dumb@ss that once boasted he'd never read a book. Any book. From a January, 2000 interview in USA Weekend magazine:

You claim you've never read a book. Are you sure you haven't? Not even in school? By accident? "That's right. When I was supposed to read one [for a book report], I chose The Outsiders because I had seen the movie
