All well said and done, but you will agree with me, won't you, that the article is not particularly representative of the whole, is tabloid in journalistic essence, and can convey the aberrated impression to many (unlike you and I) who have never been in Japan or met Japanese that everyone is promiscuous and laden with STDs, when that in fact not a reasonable proposition.

Yes, I agree with you that this article creates a picture of young women in Japan that isn't realistic. It seems to have some basis in reality for areas like Shibuya (as you mentioned) but I do agree that this seems to be more of a small problem than something consuming Japanese society.
