In other words, this came from the Japanese equivilent of "The Globe". I wonder if this story left room on the front page for the obligatory "Elvis and the Aliens" story?

Well, no. The Mainichi Daily News is a serious and respected newspaper. But on Sunday a collection of the odder and usually prurient stories are gathered, often reporting details calculated to bring a blush to staid readers, or a giggle to schoolgirls.

Perhaps a better comparison would be with the *Page Three* topless pinup girls who grace some of Britain's print offerings. Though not as blatent, the stories related by in the WaiWai compilations are likely to explain or describe trends that an observer might well have himself noted, but not personally understood or appreciated. In that sense, it can almost be thought of in the sense of an epicurian guide.

Mainichi Daily News WaiWai story *here*. See the left and right sidebar links for additional WaiWai stories- some related, some not.

An additional bound collection of such stories is available and described *here* and that may give you a further better understanding of the WaiWai article compilations.
