I was thinking the same thing. An odd couple, in many ways.
But a terrific team in these times.
To: patriciaruth
bingo....an orator and a Marshal, need 'em both one to explain why we're going in, and one to actually go in.

Sure wish he was a conservative. - All the "Labour Lovies" in the UK think he is!
To: The Wizard
Wizard, we're already in Iraq. British SAS and American special forces are already operating throughout rural Iraq, much as we did in Afghanistan. Unless Saddam flees, we're going in with the British right beside us. And Tony Blair will be doing a lot more than just offering excellent explanations. We're very fortunate to have such a friend.
Tony Blair talks the talk and walks the walk, in stark contrast to the Axis of Weasels, our other "allies". And that's what valuable. His actions from historic British principle, much like those of Churchill in the wilderness of the Thirties, will be vindicated by history. Hopefully, the British voters won't take it out on him. But the mark of a great man is one who does the right thing, regardless of what the popular mood is on a given day.
To: George W. Bush
indeed....and I didn't mean to imply Mr. Blair isn't in for the whole trip, only that he is a great partner, and like a great wife, is a compliment to her husband....I hope you liked the CD I sent you..."The American"

We must have courage to do the difficult thingThis is the part that I don't understand. What is corageous about going out and dealing with someone who is loaded up with chembio weapons, has made it clear he hates your guts, and does what he has done. This is just taking out the garbage, and the sooner you do it the fewer rats you have to deal with afterwards.
To: AndyJackson
I know what you mean.....it's obvious what has to happen to you and I and most Freepers, so where is it courageous, but unfortunately, as I have learned in my own life, sometimes even the "right" thing takes courage.
It's the fact that you know it's right that makes the ability to do it so strong.
Remember Davey Crockett said, "make sure you're right, then go ahead"

You're right. Blair was simply wonderful and deserves enormous praise. This man is willing to put his career and his party on the line for a cause he so deeply believes is just. A genuine leader. He's earned my respect and deepest gratitude. I hope Freepers keep him in their prayers.
God bless Tony Blair.

As I have said elsewhere, the problem with the members of the axis of weasels is that their minds work on a hinge of tyranny - your choice is either to be a tyrant or to kow-tow to one.
But socialists and their euro-weasel forbears don't understand that there is a third way - to act as free men. I suppose it is why they think John Wayne was rediculous. A free man thinks it is perfectly all right to go knock a few heads when somone else wants to interfere with your rights and disturb your peace. And having done that a free man thinks it just fine to leave the hooligan lying in the dust and to go back home to his wife and children and his friends and enjoy the peace that he has earned without having an obligation to take over, run and brutalize the place he just whomped up on for getting in his face. Socialists, in their everlasting desire to tell other folks how to live their lives can't understand this way of thinking.

This is Tony Blair's hour. He is uniquely positioned to lead this charge. Politics being what they are, Blair can do what Bush cannot. Bush is the hip-shooting cowboy; Blair is the cool intellectual. Those are the roles they have been cast. Coming at the problem from two different directions, they have reached the same conclusion: Saddam must go.
Blair's strength and bravery have been quite a surprise to some of us here. For years our only portrait of Blair was painted by the media brush. The Bristish Bill Clinton they called him. That was an ugly portrayal.
World events have placed Mr. Blair at center stage, and we see that he is, in fact, a principled leader. We know, Bill Clinton--he was a President of ours. Tony Blair is no Bill Clinton. Men should be judged by their actions, not their words.
By his actions as well as his eloquent words, Mr. Blair has shown the world that he is a principled, brave, leader. The Brits can be proud of him. I'm sure Churchill would be.

Tony Blair's speech sounds great. The forces are in Iraq already. Iraq is distracted and hassled by the UN. And we will go to war in a few weeks so Iraq is being hit psychologically as well.
Fox now with speech on--bits of it.
If the UN votes yes to go to war, then all the peaceniks would say "ok"? Come on-- !!!
If the war is a success and peace is eventually the outcome, then both Blair and Bush should win the Noble Peace Prize.
