All this appears to be true -- I remember much of this first hand from news coverage. Yet it remains that this has nothing to do with whether Fischer's (and Schroeder's) viewpoint on the current Iraq crisis is valid or not. The commentary is, in that context, merely one long ad hominem smear. And typical of the New York Compost, which is not even an attempt at sober journalism.

Oh really? The fact that Fischer has a long history of virulent anti-americanism and pro-terrorist leanings is irrelevant to his opinions on the regime of Saddam Hussein and what to do about it, huh?

Kelly is a syndicated columnist; this piece appears in several hundred newspapers this morning. Speaking of ad hominem smears...
