I hadn't realized that Monika Hellwig is now president of the Association of Catholic Colleges and Universities. It's an indication of how twisted things are when a heretical dissident feminist occupies such a high-profile post.

When I told Sir SuziQ what she'd said, his comment was "She's an idiot!".

I've never given ANY creedance to ANYTHING said by Richard McBrien (notice how they don't mention that he's a priest?).

I'm sure these folks feel threatened by a venture like this. This school will be in direct competition with Notre Dame, BC and Georgetown. If Ave Maria offers a wide range of majors, including Math, Sciences and Engineering, as well as the Liberal Arts, it will be a fantastic place for kids to go!

I would think it would be easy to recruit professors who are faithful Catholics to teach at a place like this. They wouldn't have to worry about the other professors complaining to the Administration that they're TOO Catholic, or about what they're teaching in the classroom.

"Tom Monaghan has the agenda of a right-wing Republican, and he happens to confuse that with the teachings of the Catholic Church," said Richard P. McBrien, a University of Notre Dame theology professor

Well you certainly can't confuse the agenda of left wing Democrats with the teachings of the Catholic Church, now can you?

I like this idea so much I might join the Founder's Club, and buy some real estate nearby!

We did join the Founder's Club last year. You could check it out here

I'd be interested in that golf course for Donors only. Wonder if they'll build houses around it. We don't even play golf, but I'd love to live where my back yard looked out onto a golf course; so peaceful! And think of the star gazing at night!!

I know at least 2 FReepers who are members of the first class at the law school.

Our son is considering Law School, and we're encouraging him to check out Ave Maria. I wish they'd decide soon if they're going to move to FL. also. He wants to get out of the frozen north, so Ann Arbor is not very appealing to him right now. He rejected Notre Dame for the same reason, though I hear the Law School at ND is fairly conservative.

Didn't he sell it and start Papa John's? Or am I thinking of someone else? I don't like Domino's, but I do like Papa John's.

I agree with you. My daughter is on her way to college and had the opportunity last week to spend the night in a dorm where she wishes to attend. Turns out she landed in a nest of lesbians. One of them stroked her hair and told another one (in her presence) how cute she is. Well, she is, but she's not interested in sharing it with them! It was a real warning for her about what she will face in the college of today. I think she wishes now that she had pursued Christian colleges a bit more.

Highly regarded institutions like Georgetown, Notre Dame and Boston College balance their quest for first-rate scholarship from a diverse faculty and a diverse student body against their commitment to a strong religious identity.

I get it. To hell with your fishwrap.

Thanks. I'm running it past the Mrs.....and yes, any more information about the golf course for "donors" (does that not include "founders") would also be appreciated.

I can't believe this article really appeared in the NYTimes. How could they possibly write an article about the Catholic Church in America without once quoting Frances Kissling?

When the school is moved to FL, the Ave Maria in MI will no longer exist...

OK. I can handle that. My head was swimming with the duplication of names! Almost like the University of California and the California State Universities -- too many similar names, so nobody uses them. They are called Berkeley, UCLA, Irvine, San Diego, Santa Cruz, Cal State Fresno, Cal State San Jose, etc., etc. A bureaucracy (sp?) started those schools, and I would hope that an individual would have more vision -- and it looks like he has!

....the multiple-democrat-voting, politically-correct-but-backboneless Marquette University, home of the flapping turkeys (or whatever they call the warriors these days).

Oooooooh! That smarts! They are calling themselves the Golden Eagles now, but your remarks are right on target.

Imagine the field day homosexual priests wil have on this campus. Here consent won't be an issue.

Perhaps the theme song for Sponge Bob?

That's true -- the homosexual priests won't be asked for consent when they're escorted off the campus by uniformed security personnel.

The deviants will find a much more comfortable reception at Georgetown, BC, and Notre Dame.

If Frances Quisling is out tearing the wings off butterflies when the Times calls for a quick quote, Richard P. McBrien or Andrew Greeley are usually there for backup.

Ave Maria?

Perhaps the question should be, "Which version will the school song be?" Schubert, Arcadelt, Bach/Gounod, chant, etc.

You mean Fresno State, don't you? My hubby is an alum and all the school's properties (t-shirts, hats, mugs, etc.) say "Fresno State."
