Panel: "What does it mean to be white?" perspectives of whiteness on campus and in the community. Panelists: Kamau Birago, assistant professor of sociology, Blanche Boyd, Roman S. & Tatiana Weller Professor of English, and Mab Segrest, visiting associate professor of gender and women´s studies, 7 pm, Cro´s Nest Lobby. x2624 Wow, I bet this guy has a real handle on being white.
Kamau Birago profile: http://www.conncoll.edu/academics/web_profiles/birago.html
And these two are hardly unbiased, mainstream and their expertise seems to be elswhere:
Mab Segrest: Transgender, Regional, National Approaches to Southern literature; Her first book, My Mama's Dead Squirrel: Lesbian Essays on Southern Culture; North Carolina Coalition for Lesbian and Gay Equality. Segrest received the North Carolina Pride Service Award (for lesbian-gay activism); consults and speaks with a wide range of organizations on questions of the Right Wing, homophobia.
Blanche Boyd: nominated for the Southern Book Award in 1991 and for the Lambda Award for Lesbian Fiction in 1997. Earlier isn 1991, she won the Lambda Award for Lesbian Fiction.
Son, I gotta ask. Why are you going to this college?

Son, I gotta ask. Why are you going to this college? I made a mistake. What is a good small conservative school which prides itself in its government, international relations program?

>>A friend told me how he realized that his department had gone totally insane for political correctness.
>>The first time the departmental Thanksgiving/XMAS party became a "Holiday Celebration" and totally vegetarian (no turkey, no ham).
Your friend should carry in a big honey baked ham to the next party. And watch it disappear in record time, while all that veggie stuff gets ignored.

Sign me up for a plateful. Or two.
And yes, I am "melanin-challenged", as I expect you are.

I got my degree from a small engineering school. They didn't even have a liberal arts department! The school was very proud that most of its graduates went on to work at Ford, GM and Chrysler. FBI, CIA and NSA had recruiting events and there were long lines to sign up for interviews!
I graduated in 1986.

That's funny. They are so into not eating meat and I know it's healthier not to, but I'm not giving up my occasional steak smothered in onions and mushrooms for ANYONE.

Enough gas will be generated to heat the campus all winter.

Meat and fish are part of a proper diet.

So, how did the Non-Judgemental Camel's do against the USGC Academy?
Conn College, I would really suck if it weren't for all the major babes.

I try not to eat hamburgers unless my husband fixes them. He buys the best meat not the cheap cardboard you get in restaurants. I eat fish and chicken burgers. They're good tasting, better than most hamburgers. I avoid a lot of ham and pork (unless it's in scalloped potatoes, which I don't eat often either). I'm trying to eat as much as I can of fresh fruit and veggies and I feel better than I have in years. He likes to make me healthy meals because I'm diabetic and a few pounds overweight. Everyone has to figure out what's best for them. I don't know if I could ever go 100% vegan but if I had cancer or some other debilitating disease ready to kill me, I could.
