Charlton Heston Speaks Out On Clooney's Cruel Alzheimer's Joke

Gallant Alzheimer's victim Charlton Heston is refusing to react in anger to George Clooney's joke about is tragic medical condition.

"I don't know the man - never met him, never even spoken to him," the 78-year-old silver screen legend told The ENQUIRER in an exclusive interview. "But I feel sorry for George Clooney - one day he may get Alzheimer's disease.

"I served my country in World War II. I survived that - I guess I can survive some bad words from this fellow."

Clooney ignited a firestorm of fury while accepting a Special Filmmaking Achievement Award from the National Board of Review in New Tork by telling the audience: "Charlton Heston announced again today that he is suffering from Alzheimer's."

And despite the hurt he caused, former "ER" star was unrepentant.

"I don't care," he said defiantly. "Charlton Heston is head of the National Rifle Assiciation - he deserves whatever anyone says about him."

Heston has often been the focus of controversy over his leadership of the NRA, but he was universally praised for his courage last August when he went public with the admission that he was suffering from the incurable - and fatal - disease that has also stricken former actor and President Ronald Reagan.

"I've still got a busy life going," Heston said. "I have no problem remembering things or being aware of things at all."

But if Heston was inclined to forgive Clooney's callous mockery, many others were not so forgiving.

"We've been inundated with e-mails from people across the country expressing outrage," Elizabeth Wilson, of the Alzheimer's Association, told The ENQUIRER.

"It was a totally insensitive joke at the expense of a man who had the courage to come forward, reveal that he had been disgnosed with this tragic disease - and by doing so gave hope to others that attention would be focused on it and perhaps hasten a cure

"It was particularly hurtful to the four million Americans who suffer from Alzheimer's and the 18 million more who love and care for them."

Just a few celebrities who have been stricken with Alzheimer's disease --

    Dana Andrews
    Arlene Francis
    Edmund O'Brien
    Maurice Ravel
    Rita Hayworth

Hayworth's daughter is the president of Alzheimer's Disease International, an organization devoted to raising awareness of this devastating disease and its effects on families.

George Clooney is not a stupid person

Are you kidding? Not only is he a lousy actor, he can't express his own thoughts in a logical manner. He is a stupid, self absorbed leftwing elitist who is self destructing a mediocre career. The little loser is going to get his ass kicked professionally and probably physically in the near future.

I used to like Clooney but I can't forgive him. Two of my great aunts, my grandfather and a cousin have all fallen to Alzheimers. My mother is terrified that she will get it and looking at my family history I'm worried about what old age holds for me as well. Anybody who can joke about this disease is beneath contempt. George Clooney will never make a penny off of me.

When Clooney says things like this it makes him look good in front of his pals, Julia Roberts, Brat Pitt, and all the other members of the Rat Pack.

Clooney apparently has Alzheimer's as well - he's "forgotten" where he placed his sense of class and civility. Of course, that's assuming he had them in the first place.

Therefore, I agree with the NRA's positions on many issues. However, I also believe in each individual's right to be free from moral or religious persecution.

I agree he has a right to spew anything he wants, but persecution does not include me wanting to have him unemployed by boycotting any lousy movie he does and encouraging others to do the same. He has no right to my money. If he offends me, he should have no expectation of me paying to see his work.

This is all so ironic, as Clooney is one of the leading causes of Alzheimer's.

Any one who sat through that brain-destroying public health hazard called "Solaris" will know of what I speak.

As an actor, I have never seen anything other than the most boring performances from this over-rated hack.

Now, Heston...THERE"S a real performer, one of the great ones! Guess Clooney is one envious second rate thespian.

The statement was part of a prepared speech that was given from a podium, and he has said that same thing a couple other times over the previous 20 years.

Do we really have "free speech"? Or is it only speech that the leftist media approves of that is free?

The hypocrisy of the media is on display in big bold letters these days. They would skewer anyone on the right who dared say anything like what C. Looney said. But since Looney is a leftist, he gets a free pass.

The leftwing media has lost their way. Fair, objective reporting is far to difficult for them, so they take the easy way out. Agenda driven propaganda.

Don't remind me, so did I. He is a jerk and he can't act. He really plays the same role in every movie. I said I would never watch anything with him in it again and then we watched Enough and he was one of the Producers!!!

Mr. Clooney, the Baldwins, Ms. Sarandon and her boyfriend, and that west wing jackass and his son and illegitimate son will never ever again get a penny out of me for their movies. Theres a bunch more who I can't even remember but don't even merit my mentioning their stupid-%$# names......

I watched my mother suffer for years before falling into a deep dementia and dying. Her last days were horrible, especially for us, her family. At least she was unaware of her final fate. I'd like to take young George by the hand and drag his elitest butt through a nursing home to see what he is making fun of. This man boils my blood!

Absolutely, and the implosion is going on even as we type. In the past week alone, his remarks about Charlton Heston have angered a large segment of the nation, his movie "Confessions of a Dangerous Mind" premiered and bombed like a daisycutter, and he went on the premiere of Jimmy Kimmel's show with a bottle of vodka and helped himself and everyone else in sight look like such jackasses, ABC had to step in and ban booze from the studio audience. Of course, if you're going to watch George Clooney, it probably helps to be schnockered. No wonder he's so anxious to lower himself to make "Ocean's Eleven 2." You have to be in pretty awful career straits when starring in a sequel to a remake of a Rat Pack movie looks like a lifeline.

A sub-mediocre actor with a ridiculously inflated opinion of himself, whose sole "talent" is conveying the impression that he thinks he's the coolest guy in the room, when he's really just a smug, arrogant pratt.

Agreed!
Hollyweird-depraved-ingrates!
I adore Heston! I don't know every single minute thing he stands for, but I do know what has been made public during my lifetime, and again, I adore the man. God Bless him!

Jessica Lang belongs on your Hollyweird squares list. But then there's so many, and so few squares.

Like you, I've added Clooney on my list of "don't want to see these jerks anymore". And remember, Clooney, Charleton Heston will long be remembered as a Great American, while you are currently not being remembered at all.
