... he even mentioned an example - that if something were found in CA it would nail it down (the event began) for sure

- THEN he talked about the fact that the *tiles* are numbered

- a cinch for knowing where it came off ...

You miss that part?

Know the shuttle is in constant contact and the software is giving NASA the readings. Don't know if the software that might give a false reading could be detected it was false at the time.

One thing is obvious, this shuttle was NOT on fire when it came across California, nor was it "breaking up."

No, but I got the impression he was not buying the "broke up over California/on fire over CA" rumors.

That's for sure -- it was not breaking up in CA and his inferrence seemed to be that people in CA that claimed to have seen the shuttle breaking up did not know what they were looking at!

If the shuttle were breaking up in CA, I would assume NASA would have known about it!

Don't put much stock in the astronomer in CA from what I am hearing!

I'm monitoring another thread....too bad some of those folks aren't listening to this. They are still stuck back on the tile hitting the wing scenario, the wheel well issue, and, of course, it should never have been sent up in the first place. (sigh)

Did you see the video captured out of Nevada -

- it shows a big PUFF as the glow of the shuttle approaches the planet Venus (clearly visible at that time).

This video was shot looking east ... our Fox station played it this moring.

Actually, that's not the impression I got from what he said; I thought he meant he had SEEN those reports and they were going to LOOK in the areas where the people say that they "saw" something.......like they were going to prove that it didn't happen.

I get the opposite impression. Not that I've been listening all that closely, typing, etc. gets in the way! But I am pretty sure his technical comments indicate interest in events over CA, i.e., he is very open to the idea that something happened over CA that was anomolous, and possibly relevant to the eventual demise of the Columbia.

Special team 24 hours a day is record handling.

Engineers want information to certain things that are embargoed by NASA. Overreacting with too much information embargoed for now which means to me anyone claiming to have a lot of data on what happened doesn't know what they are talking about.

"We are not sure if the item was white...or just 'light' colored as a result of the sun hitting it."

Said this in reference to the 'tiles' that might have come off at lift-off. He is not convinced it was actually tile, it sounds like to me.

Depends on the definition of "breaking up." If it means some small part came off, not enough to cause "immediate disintigration," but enough to start a chain of events, then I have the impression NASA is open to that theory. Their instrument readings, etc. were not "typical" at that point, and they are hungry for an explanation.

If "breaking up" means breaking the shuttle into two or three big pieces, etc, then I think all will agree that event happened over TX.

There was a CA photographer who claims to have photos showing a "lightning bolt" crossing the path of the shuttle. This and the Nevada would be two separate things, right?
