Mozambiques weak property rights laws ( 50 yr leases on land whose title remains w/ the state ) are a recipe for disaster for the future. Until a right to private property is recognized by the govt, all these suckers ( sorry , farmers) are at the mercy of whichever particular fad is blowing through the statehouses that season -- freedom to buy and sell one's title to the land is key to obtaining the highest possible use from it....

It strikes me as sharecropping at best, indentured servitude at worst.

If my life were at stake in such a situation... I think I'd find another country and another line of work...
