Peterson tackles rumors, reports

At center, Los Angeles radio station KFI radio personality Ken Chiampou broadcasts live as he and other members of the media go to Scott Peterson's side gate after he arrives home Wednesday afternoon. Peterson later ordered the media off his property.

Peterson tackles rumors, reports

Scott Peterson conducted several televised interviews at his home on Wednesday, address-ing numerous allegations and rumors surrounding the investigation into the disappearance of his wife, Laci.

By 5 p.m., more than a dozen TV trucks had set up camp near the Petersons' house on Covena Avenue in Modesto's La Loma neighborhood.

Wednesday night, Peterson called police when other reporters -- hopeful for an interview -- followed him to his back gate and remained on his property after he told them to leave. Officers arrived, stayed 10 minutes and left, making no arrests.

Peterson declined to be interviewed by The Bee, saying that he was upset with two articles the newspaper had published.

One of the articles described Peterson at a New Year's Eve vigil for his wife, saying he was laughing and smiling a good deal of the time. He did not say what the other story was.

"With the feelings I have about the newspaper right now, I am not interested in talking," Peterson said by phone. "The articles need to have more with Laci in them and not be focused on me."

Laci Peterson's family reported her missing Christmas Eve. The 27-year-old is more than eight months pregnant with her first child.

Scott Peterson, 30, said he last saw his wife at 9:30 a.m. the day before Christmas when he left for a fishing trip and she prepared to go for a walk with their dog.

Police say they have not named Scott Peterson as a suspect, nor have they ruled him out of the investigation.

Wednesday began with the second part of Peterson's videotaped interview on ABC Television's "Good Morning America," with co-host

Diane Sawyer talking not only with Peterson but with his family.

In the interview, Peterson said:

Both he and Laci have $250,000 life insurance policies, taken out two years ago. He called untrue a report that he took out such a policy on his wife only last summer.

His wife may not have opened the drapes Christmas Eve morning because it was probably 40 degrees outside, and keeping the drapes closed helps keep the house warm. Family members and neighbors have said that Laci Peterson opened the drapes every day.

He routinely cuts his hands in his work on farms. Peterson, a fertilizer salesman, made the comment and showed his hands in response to reports that police had found blood in one of his and Laci's vehicles.

He loaded large umbrellas to take to his warehouse on Christmas Eve. A neighbor reportedly saw Peterson putting something into a vehicle that day.

During the interview, Peterson described his marriage as "glorious" even though he admitted to cheating on his pregnant wife. "We took care of each other very well," he said. "She was amazing. She is amazing."

Asked about the baby boy due within weeks, he responded: "That was, it's so hard."

At his home, Peterson sat down with several news outlets. He went through the interviews alone, without an attorney.

Speaking with Gloria Gomez of Sacramento TV station KOVR, Peterson explained why he said he told his wife about his affair with Amber Frey: "It was the right thing to do. And, as you know, when you're not doing the right thing, it eats you up. You know you feel sick to your stomach and you can't function. And you have a hard time, you know, looking at someone."

Throughout Wednesday, people drove and walked by the Peterson house, apparently to get a closer look.

"It's innocent until proven guilty in a court of law," said Elvira Varse, who lives a few streets away. "But he's guilty until he's proven innocent in this neighborhood."

Among the media throng was a pair of shock jocks from a Los Angeles radio station. When Peterson came home, one of them yelled into a megaphone: "Nobody believes your story."

Lyanne Melendez, a reporter with San Francisco radio station KGO, walked up to the shock jocks' radio van and told the DJs: "That's just bad journalism."

One of them responded: "We're not journalists. We're entertainers."

Bee staff photographer Adrian Mendoza contributed to this report.

But why the umbrellas then at 9:30?..why not take them when he disposed of her body in the wee morning hours or how do the umbrellas fit in?

The umbrellas were discovered at his office/wearhouse along with other items, my belief is that they were used to conseal Laci inside, then wraped with a tarp and transported to another area for her disposal.

All along, mostly because of his crazy behavior, I've thought there was more to it than the g/f or the "being tied down". There is a big puzzle piece missing, she looks so sweet & fun loving, how was she married to this drip?

i agree. Something IS missing...I don't think Amber is the motive. Alledgedly he declared bankruptcy. Looks like he still was spending. Wonder if he was into some "Bad People".?

Cold, but something else, can't put my finger on it, either very, very stupid or so into himself that he thinks he can get away with this! Sure has a lot of people stumped, even the guy from People Mag. that was on Greta, he just shook his head in disbelief how SP acts!

"I don't know. Maybe the lawyer shut it down? "

Yea, maybe....I guess they had some control or leverage to stop running it... but he said all those things to her, and they've shown a clip, so hopefully the police are getting more info/inconsistencies with it.

I shudder to think what he did to her and that poor baby....and his words referring to the baby
"Asked about the baby boy due within weeks, he responded: "That was, it's so hard."

makes me sick...it's like he was slippin up to say "that was so hard - killing the baby too"

Though a monster like him wouldn't really be thinking that.

I have outlined every detail of the Peterson developments for you. Read 'em!

Except these last couple of days, there's so much to discuss now that Scott's talking, you'll just have to look for replays of the interviews. Scott has dug himself about down to the earth's core by now, and it's getting hotter.

If only someone would find the bodies.

So the guy from NE says that there may be more g/f's, maybe 3, plus added that people at the hair salon new about the affair, he said "several" and when Greata pinned him down for a ballpark figure of "several" he said that she had told 3 or 4 people. Do you suppose her sister knew, as someone said early on, that her sister never looked like she trusted him, and that was at first when the family was still supporting him.

Another thing, wasn't it her father that asked SP right after the disappearance if he had a g/f? Maybe the sister had told the dad what she knew.

Saw that. He just can't get a bead on him either.

Wonder if Laci's parents helped with a down payment on their house? I am wondering why he "chose" Dec. 23 -24th when Laci was waiting to tell family AFTER the holidays? Why didn't he want the Holiday's to happen? Did it have anything to do with being with her parents? (thinking out loud here..!)

Things could have escalated, surely we don't believe that she was OK with all of it, like he said. Maybe things got really bitter & he didn't actually pick the date, just happened.

All they saw was happiness..never arguments..

There are many times a person will put on a biiiig front while they are having marital problems because they are still trying to keep their marriage together and do not want others to know,as they are hoping it will blow over and things will be back to normal.

I saw it happen with a family member. Her husband was having an affair and they were arguing etc for 8 mos, yet when in front of family and friends you would NEVER have suspected it. BTW she finally did divorce him. THAT !! is when she told all.

It may have been, but may have been moved up a bit because of a confrontation. The missing umbrella stands is a huge point. I think SP took the umbrellas away, cause they would tip sideways if they were still there with no bases to stand in. The bases have not been found, correct?

See post #87 regarding the market umbrellas. They really don't weigh much at all, providing nobody is WRAPPED in them.

Right, the neighbor watched him load them in his truck, the neighbors remarks were that they were bulky. They were then found at the small rental storage building that he used for his office. So if Laci was inside, he disposed of her and transported the umbrellas back to the office. Then his story is that he took them to the rental storage because it was raining. I'm not sure if all of this can be confirmed but it would be very close to the actual event.
