What is with the Military people in the front row not applauding or anything? Is that what they are supposed to do? Sit there?

Military personnel are under strict orders not to show their political orientation publicly. Especially high ranking personnel. But take my word for it as one who's been there, most of our military personnel are conservatives.

Same with the SCOTUS Justices ... we don't pick political sides (in public).

I think that is normal for them. Even on Sept 20, 2001, they did not applaud very much.

The Chairman of the Joint Chiefs and other Members do not stand and very seldom clap unless it is for our military -- it is customary.
