Black Pastor Compares Abortion to Slavery

(AgapePress) - A black minister in Southern California compares the killing of the unborn today to the national tragedy of slavery in 19th-century America. He also shares a fascinating insight into the nation's largest abortion-provider, Planned Parenthood, and its founder, Margaret Sanger, who he says was a "racist."

Adlai Mack is pastor at Christians United Church in San Diego. Mack was first introduced to the moral dilemma of abortion in 1973 by one of his professors at Princeton University. Dr. Paul Ramsey, a professor of ethics, was particularly appalled by the procedure of prematurely ending the life of an unborn baby. Mack agreed with Ramsey and concluded that abortion also harms those in the black community.

Pastor Adlai Mack "Abortion is doing harm to black Americans as did slavery in the nineteenth century -- and for similar reasons," Mack explains. "In the past, the Negro slave was considered by many authorities at the time to be not fully human .... Today as well, the 'fetus' [a Latin word meaning "child"] is regarded as not a person and not fully human. [Instead] it is thrown into a bucket in an abortion clinic."

Lasting Impression As a young student and eventual recipient of a Bachelor of Arts degree at Princeton, Mack never forgot the message conveyed by his teacher. And he feels it is equally important for those in the black community to understand the moral consequences of abortion. He thinks that black leaders -- in particular, most black ministers -- do not convey the horrors of abortion to their congregations.

"Black pastors and black priests are largely doing little or nothing on this issue because of apathy or complicity," Mack says.

The pastor adds that, in his opinion, blacks are conducting their own genocide. "It is striking that the current U.S. abortion movement mostly aborts poor people, black people, and Hispanics," he says.

He points out that according to the Alan Guttmacher Institute, a research group affiliated with Planned Parenthood of America, those three demographic groups represent 57%, 36%, and 25% respectively of all abortions in the U.S. With blacks making up 12.7% of the U.S. population, that group has a disproportionately greater number of abortions when compared to other racial group categories in America.

Sanger's Legacy Ultimately Mack is suspicious of the ulterior motives of abortionists themselves. He makes a strong case of his suspicions by referring to quotes from the founder of Planned Parenthood of America, Margaret Sanger.

Margaret Sanger died in 1966. But she has a number of documented statements and positions on record pertaining to family, race, and population control. What pro-life advocates like Mack find particularly appalling are the shamefully "racist" statements from Planned Parenthood's founder.

In a May 1997 Wall Street Journal article, Steven Mosher, president of the Population Research Institute, wrote: "In 1939 [Sanger] and Clarence Gamble made an infamous proposal called ‘Birth Control and the Negro,' which asserted that ‘the poorer areas, particularly the South ... are producing alarmingly more than their share of future generations.' Her ‘religion of birth control' would, she wrote, ‘ease the financial load of caring for, with public funds ... children destined to become a burden to themselves, to their family, and ultimately to the nation.'"

In 1934 Sanger published her Code to Stop Overproduction of Children, in which she said that "no woman shall have the legal right to bear a child without a permit ... no permit shall be valid for more than one child."

It is widely known that Sanger associated with followers of the Marxist, Vladimir Lenin, and with advocates of national socialism and eugenics -- the latter being "the science that deals with the improvement of hereditary qualities of a race (by the control of human mating)" [Webster's Dictionary]. Malthusian eugenics played a big part in Nazi Germany's promotion of ‘a master Aryan race.'

In his book Grand Illusions: The Legacy of Planned Parenthood, author George Grant claims Sanger "was thoroughly convinced that ‘inferior races' were in fact ‘human weeds' and a ‘menace to civilization.'.... [Sanger] had come to regard organized charity to ethnic minorities and the poor as a ‘symptom of a malignant social disease' because it encouraged the [influence] of ‘defectives, delinquents, and dependents.'" [p. 91]

This stream of thought follows much of the thinking of Leninists and eugenicists at the time who view religious people with much disdain and consternation. Mack counters that, saying: "Predictably, when black Americans turn from God, the Bible and the church, they find themselves frequently in abortion clinics."

Planned Parenthood disputes the "racist" accusations involving Sanger as false, stating that her quotes are taken out of context. Faye Wattleson, a former black director of Planned Parenthood, however, admitted in an August 1984 Washington Times article that Sanger was indeed an advocate of "eugenics and the perfect race."

Not Alone It encourages Pastor Adlai Mack to know that, while few, there are other black ministers who share strong pro-life convictions like himself. Rev. Clenard Childress, Rev. Johnny Hunter, and Rev. Jesse Lee Peterson all have deep-rooted pro-life convictions.

Childress is a pastor of New Calvary Baptist Church in Montclair, New Jersey. Hunter, a minister from Texas, is national director of the Life Education and Resource Network (LEARN), the largest African-American, evangelical pro-life ministry in the U.S. And Peterson is director of the Brotherhood Organization of a New Destiny (BOND), which runs a home for fatherless young men in Los Angeles.

All of these ministers have their own stories and reasons to oppose abortion. Notably they bring some additional information that makes their case against "black genocide" even more compelling for African-Americans to contemplate:

Three out of five pregnant African-American women will abort their child. An estimated 1,452 African-American children are killed each day by the heinous act of abortion. Between 1882 and 1968, 3,446 blacks were lynched in the United States -- a number surpassed in less than three days by abortion. Approximately one-third of all abortions are performed on black women. With so much money at stake, it appears that the beneficiaries of the abortion industry go out of their way to defend individuals such as Margaret Sanger. Pro-Life advocates like Mack and others still hope that more African-Americans will see through the veneer of abortion advocacy groups like Planned Parenthood, the Democratic Party, and NARAL Pro-Choice America..

Mack, Childress, Hunter, and Peterson are hopeful that more within the black community will join their ranks. Childress thinks this issue will "eventually prick the moral conscious of the black community."

For Adlai Mack, that could not come soon enough.

When I was an undergrad at Columbia, I was going through the newspaper archives on a research project. I found a front page article from the early '70's of Jesse Jackson comparing abortion to slavery. How times have changed.

The Liberal manifesto: Why be part of the solution when there is good money to be made perpetuating the problem?

Abortion advocates try to sugar coat Margaret Sanger's comments, but the fact is, she supported birth control to keep down the black population. I've read that on numerous occasions.

I once read a statistic that concluded that black babies were being killed to a higher proportion than any other race.

One of Sanger's tactics was to befriend black pastors and get them to spread the Planned Parenthood eugenic message. Jesse Jackson started out as a pro-lifer but P.P. must've 'befriended' him.

I reckon that makes ole' Jesse a bonafide stooge.

After women secured the right to vote, many former suffragists and their daughters became active in a variety of other reform initiatives, including advocacy of child-labor and child-abuse legislation, world peace, birth control, civil rights of minorities and women, conservation of natural resources, workplace safety, hour-and-wage legislation, fair labor standards, and consumer issues such as pure-food-and-drug legislation.

The papers of Belle Case La Follette, Cornelia Bryce Pinchot, Sophonisba Breckinridge, Mary Church Terrell, and Margaret Sanger
provide superb examples of women's twentieth-century reform impulse. Collections of personal papers are supplemented by large and extensive organizational records of the National Women's Trade Union League (NWTUL), National Consumers League (NCL), National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), National Council of Jewish Women (NCJW), and Child Labor Committee.

On arrival in England, Margaret Sanger contacted a number of British radicals, feminists, and neo-Malthusians whose social and economic theories helped Sanger develop broader justifications for the use of birth control. She was also deeply influenced by psychologist Havelock Ellis and his theories on the importance of female sexuality. Sanger broadened her arguments for birth control claiming it would fulfill a critical psychological need by enabling women to fully enjoy sexual relations, free from the fear of pregnancy.

Sanger, Margaret (1879-1966), American leader of the birth-control movement.
Sanger was born in Corning, New York, on September 14, 1879, and trained as a nurse at the White Plains (New York) Hospital. Her work among the poor in New York City convinced her of the widespread need for information concerning contraception, and she abandoned nursing to devote herself to the promotion of that objective. In 1914 she was indicted for circulating through the mails a magazine called The Woman Rebel, in which she attacked the legislative restrictions on distribution of contraceptive information known as the Comstock Law. Passed in 1873, this federal legislation made it a crime to import or distribute any device, medicine, or information designed to prevent conception or induce abortion, or to mention in print the names of sexually transmitted diseases. In addition, nurses and physicians were legally barred from providing this information to their patients. Sanger won support from prominent community leaders; through their influence the case against her was dismissed in 1916. In the same year she established the first American birth-control clinic in Brooklyn, New York. Charged with "maintaining a public nuisance," she was convicted and served thirty days in the Queens County Penitentiary, where she organized a school for fellow inmates. After her release, she won an appeal, opening the way for physicians to give birth-control advice in New York City. She then began publishing Birth Control Review, a monthly magazine that she edited until 1928. She founded the American Birth Control League and served (1921-1928) as its first president. In 1927 she organized the first World Population Conference. Sanger was honorary chairperson of the Planned Parenthood Federation of America, Inc., which was formed from the American Birth Control League in 1942.

The Democrats' strategy of murdering off their core constituency will be their undoing.

Someday years from now, we will see abortion's final victim, and it will turn out to be the once-great Democratic Party, which was left at the end deformed, bloody and desperately trying to kick away from death, but unable to save itself.

Margaret Sanger was a eugenicist that had Nazi links and she wanted to get rid of all the Black people in the whole world and anyone else she deemed unfit to live. She was a sick sick women. Her planned parenthood operation is still trying to do the same.

The Repackaging of Margaret Sanger
THE WALL STREET JOURNAL MAY 5, 1997

By Steven W. Mosher

Sanger frequently featured racists and eugenicists in her magazine, the Birth Control Review. Contributor Lothrop Stoddard, who also served on Sanger's board of directors, wrote in "The Rising Tide of Color Against White World-Supremacy" that "We must resolutely oppose both Asiatic permeation of white race-areas and Asiatic inundation of those non-white, but equally non-Asiatic regions inhabited by the really inferior races." Each issue of the Birth Control Review was packed with such ideas. But Sanger was not content merely to publish racist propaganda; the magazine also made concrete policy proposals, such as the creation of "moron communities," the forced production of children by the "fit," and the compulsory sterilization and even elimination of the "unfit."

Sanger's own racist views were scarcely less opprobrious. In 1939 she and Clarence Gamble made an infamous proposal called "Birth Control and the Negro," which asserted that "the poorer areas, particularly in the South ... are producing alarmingly more than their share of future generations." Her "religion of birth control" would, she wrote, "ease the financial load of caring for with public funds ... children destined to become a burden to themselves, to their family, and ultimately to the nation."

War with Germany, combined with lurid tales of how the Nazis were putting her theories about "human weeds" and "genetically inferior races" into practice, panicked Sanger into changing her organization's name and rhetoric. "Birth control," with its undertone of coercion, became "family planning." The "unfit" and the "dysgenic" became merely "the poor." The American Birth Control League became the Planned Parenthood Federation of America.

Following Sanger's death in 1966, Planned Parenthood felt so confident that it had safely buried her past that it began boasting about "the legacy of Margaret Sanger." And it began handing out cutely named Maggie Awards to innocents who often had no inkling of her real views. The first recipient was Martin Luther King - who clearly had no idea that Sanger had inaugurated a project to set his people free from their progeny. "We do not want word to go out that we want to exterminate the Negro population and the Minister is the man who can straighten out that idea if it ever occurs to any of their more rebellious members," Sanger wrote Gamble. Had Dr. King known why he may have been chosen to receive the award, he would have recoiled in horror. The good news is that Sanger's - and Planned Parenthood's - patina of respectability has worn thin in recent years. Last year Congress came within a few votes of cutting a huge chunk of the organization's federal funding. The 1995-96 Planned Parenthood annual report notes that it has closed up shop in Mississippi, and that the number of its staff and volunteers has fallen by 4,000 over the previous year.

Perhaps the next time the Maggie Award is offered to someone of character and integrity - and more than a passing knowledge of Sanger's bigotry - he will raise an indignant cry of refusal. He will have ample grounds.
