January 20, 2003 -- The U.S. military has a top-secret weapon - a manmade bolt of lightning so powerful, it could render Saddam Hussein's stockpile of chemical and biological weapons useless in a flash.

The high-powered microwave beams, called HPMs, can fry sophisticated computers and electronics with electromagnetic pulses.

Isn't that kind of like the device they used in the remake of Ocean's Eleven?

And you wanted to buy a smart gun to use against the government in case of a coup? Yes it's the Ocean's Eleven CalTech toy. I tried to tell everyone this is why they were pushing smart gun technology.

The "e-bomb" contains as much power as what the Hoover Dam generates in 24 hours - about 2 billion watts - and it can all be loaded onto long-range cruise missiles.

Technically scrambled. Let me try to untangle it.

The "e-bomb" produces, very briefly and in a focused direction, an electromagnetic field equivalent to that of an "isotropic" (i.e., theoretical omnidirectional) radiator operating at about 2 billion watts - the same power as is continually produced by the generators at Hoover Dam.

Uh, I can see why they simplified it <>=<)B^).

KJV Revelation 13:13-14
13. And he doeth great wonders, so that he maketh fire come down from heaven on the earth in the sight of men,
14. And deceiveth them that dwell on the earth by the means of those miracles which he had power to do in the sight of the beast; saying to them that dwell on the earth, that they should make an image to the beast, which had the wound by a sword, and did live.

the same power as is continually produced by the generators at Hoover Dam.

This is still scrambled. The sentence seems to be saying that the bomb yields as much ENERGY as Hoover Dam does in 24 hours, and that this figure would be 2 billion watt-seconds (joules). But since I don't know what the power capacity of Hoover Dam is, I can't say if this is actually what is meant.

Remember: Energy is what weapons blow stuff up with -- measured in joules, ergs, watt-seconds, and such things. Power is a measure of how fast something produces the energy.

You could produce 2 billion watt-seconds of energy from a hamster cage, but it would sure take a lot of hamsters!

Hoover Dam Given:

2 billion watts in 24 hours =
2 G W in 24 hours =
0.083 G W in 1 hour =
0.00138 G W in 1 minute =
2.315 e-5 G W in 1 second =
2.315 e-8 G W in 1 millisecond =
2.315 e-9 G W in 1 nanosecond =

So as you can readily see, it really is not all that much, if the interval is short enough!!!! /sarcasm off

Hmmm. I've noticed several articles like this lately, and television shows as well. The History Channel had a great program on last night about how the US is training soldiers in urban warfare and how we won't make the same mistakes that were make in Somalia (the biggest mistake, x42, is gone!).

Looks to me like huge PsyOps are going on with the intention of convincing Sadaam and his Generals that they'd better not try to fight us. If he decides to go with his delusions of granduer, too bad. I feel bad for the citizens of Iraq who'll be cought in the crossfire, but I'd bet that many have already made plans to bug out as soon as the first sign of trouble starts! They are fortunate that the US can direct fire pretty well to avoid civilians as much as possible. They are unfortunate in that Sadaam has PURPOSELY placed military bunkers in civilian areas and parked tanks next to hospitals and schools in the vain attempt to keep his military machines from being destroyed.

Smart bombs and Zot guns, anyone?

A couple months back on the thread that spoke of Iraq getting Bi-static radars to try and defeat stealth technology, I suggested using EMP pulse weapons to kill the radar.
Nice to see the weapon boys are on the same sheet of music.
