Bee Gees Singer Maurice Singer died Sunday.......
MIAMI BEACH, Florida -- Bee Gee Maurice Gibb died in hospital on Sunday, his family said.
The 53-year-old had been in a critical condition in hospital after suffering a heart attack during an operation to remove an intestinal blockage after he collapsed at his Florida home last week.

...sales were falling off until their album, Children of the World, went platinum with three hit singles, including the disco anthem, You Should be Dancing. In the states, they had hits in the early 70's with "How Can You Mend A Broken Heart" and "Lonely Days" but, before "Children of the World", there was "Main Course" which launched them back to the top of the charts with hits like "Jive Talkin'", "Fanny" and my favorite Bee Gees tune "Nights On Broadway". It was one of the first well-selling albums of the Disco Era and was perhaps the first successful disco album of the era performed by white musicians.
While disco itself became numbingly bland and repetitive, the Bee Gees rode the wave with outstanding success, not only selling many hits of their own but (like Lennon and McCartney) essentially pawning off their less-favorite tunes to other artists who also scored hits with them (Yvonne Elliman, Samantha Sang, Barbra Streisand, Tavares, etc.).
While lacking in lyrical depth, the Gibbs managed to produce intriguing rhythms and sounds, mixing it with a wide range of voices that made their music some of the most compelling in pop music.
I will wait even if it takes forever
I will wait even if it takes a lifetime
Somehow I feel inside you never ever left my side
Make it like it was before
Even if it takes a lifetime, takes a lifetime
- Nights On Broadway

The song was titled "Fanny (Be Tender With My Love)" and one of the local DJ's always introduced it as "Love (Be Tender With My Fanny)".

I just heard on the radio that one of his brothers died in his 30's of heart problems, too.

That was younger brother Any Gibb. He had a severe depression problem. I think his death had more to do with drugs.
As I stated earlier, Andy's work with the original Brothers Gibb was remarkable too. He dominated the charts with Olivia Newton John in the mid-to late 70's.

" Just what sort of "intestinal blockage" was this?!"
Just a guess, but it sounds like his body went into septic shock, especially since the intestines were involved and he may have had a massive infection, which overwhelmed his body. This in turn causes various organ systems to fail-the lungs stop functioning, the kidneys shut down and the blood refuses to clot. When that cascade of organ failures start, the prognosis is grave.
