Maurice attended a benefit in Miami for a young girl (my best friends niece) who died of a rare childhood cancer. He made a generous contribution to her foundation.

A real nice guy.

The passing of a pop icon like Elvis or in this case Maurice Gibb always makes an interesting study. In particular, the "grief" of the so-called fans. The expressions of sorrow always seem to suggest that the pop star cared for each individual fan personally or that he started out on his music career for the sole purpose of bringing joy to the masses, like some musical Messiah. I find this all most curious. To me, it is just another manifestation of what I like to call the "Princess Diana phenomenon". Shallow, selfish grief, which dissipates rapidly.

I believe that the sorrow of fans has more to do with the passing of their own youth, or nostalgia for a period in their lives with which the pop star's music was associated and which has gone forever. The sad truth is, that most musicians start out on their careers in the pursuit of purely selfish goals; fame, wealth, luxury, and once achieving it, live lives of excess and in many cases moral turpitude. This in turn, often leads to their downfall, to which we, in turn, respond with grief.

The Bee Geees made nice music. And were rewarded well for their efforts. May Maurice Gibb rest in peace.

Somewhere today, a true hero may die. Far from his friends and family. Fighting to defend your family and mine.

Can you translate this for idiots, like me, who are religiously impaired? I hope you're not making any nasty allegations about Maurice Gibb? Lose his soul?

I have no idea on the status on Gibb's soul since I do not know if he had received Christ as his personal saviour.

The point is that no matter how famous or wealthy you are there will be a time when death knocks on the door and all of that will no longer matter.

But God said unto him, Thou, fool, this night thy soul shall be required of thee; then whose shall these things be, which thou hast provided? So is he that layeth up treasure for himself and is not rich toward God (Lk.12:19-20)

Maurice learned from his experiences and was willing to give his time and love to others in a truly unselfish way. Because he did this daily for many years , your study is questionable.

The Bee Gees should be remembered for their excellent early work in the sixties, and not for that disco stuff. There was a "Beatleish" quality about them, but their work was original and top notch-easily topping most of the dreck heard on the radio in recent years. "Younguns" born in the sixties and since only recall the regrettable disco period, and dont realize that the Gibb brothers established themselves with their superior earlier output.

Don't get carried away and say stuff you don't actually believe, just because a painful thing has happened. There is still room as well as an obligation to despise BS on the basis of her politics, demagoguery, hypocrisy, lies and silliness, no matter with whom she made an album - and similarly. there is room to hold Barry accountable for siding with a wealthy socialist "don't-do-as-I-do,-do-as-I-say" bitch like Streisand. So his brother died - it's sad, very sad - but that's no reason to exonerate him of his misguided behavior.

Good point. Never give in to Emotion.

Never in our lifetime will we hear music like the disco of the 70's I know allot of freepers are glad about that but like you said just look at all the crap in the music world today. Never will their be a Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes or any of that Detroit and Philly sound again. I am glad I am able to appreciate it.

'Til I finally died, which started the whole world living,
oh, if I'd only seen that the joke was one me.

.....

I Started A Joke (Gibb / Gibb / Gibb)
Written by the BeeGees

I started a joke, which started the whole world crying,
but I didn't see that the joke was on me, oh no.

I started to cry, which started the whole world laughing,
oh, if I'd only seen that the joke was on me.

I looked at the skies, running my hands over my eyes,
and I fell out of bed, hurting my head from things that I'd said.

Til I finally died, which started the whole world living,
oh, if I'd only seen that the joke was on me.

I looked at the skies, running my hands over my eyes,
and I fell out of bed, hurting my head from things that I'd said.

'Til I finally died, which started the whole world living,
oh, if I'd only seen that the joke was one me.

Great song!

WE have a close friend who had the same emergency operation that Gibb did. The Doctors warned that the surgery was extremely risky with many complications, because our Friend had had a few other surgeries making it difficult to get to that particular area.

Our friend survived. The point is that even in this day and age, we can't operate and save everyone..sw

Maurice Gibb married the British singer Lulu in 1969. Four year laters they split, and on Oct 17, 1975 Maurice married Yvonne Spenceley (Sept 24, 1950). They have two children: Adam Andrew (Feb 23, 1976) and Samantha Amanda (Jul 2, 1980)

The Lord

Verse 1:

What do you get for trying? Minute you're born you're dying.
The body is six feet down. The Lord says the soul sticks around.

Chorus:

You can believe what you wanna but I know what I'm gonna do.
I'm gonna believe in the Lord.
You can believe what you wanna but I know what I'm gonna do.
I'm gonna believe in the Lord.

Verse 2:

You think you live on laughter. But you don't know what's after.
Singing Hallelujah. I can know the Master.

Chorus:

Verse 3
When my life is over. Lie in fields of clover.
Waiting for my own girl. Living in a new world . Yeah..

Chorus:

Verse 1:

Chorus:

end:
I'm gonna believe in the Lord.

Thats a song, written and sung by the Bee Gees.
RIP Maurice.
The Bee Gee's made many, many beautiful songs. A giant in the music world has passed this day.
