Whatever.
Does anyone think that Socks gives a rat's rear end? This isn't about the cat, it's about people's feelings for the cat.
I love animals, but why do people get so wacky about them to the point of honoring them like little gods? Sort of like tree-huggers. Animal-huggers.

Perhaps the answer lies in history when for thousands of years the Egyptians worshipped cats. Maybe they were more enlightened then us moderns.(Just kidding.)
Since I lived for about 50 years not caring about the critters I'll give you my analysis:
I think that people have to work to get the cat to love/like/tolerate you.(Dogs work to love humans which is the opposite.) If that happens they become your pet's human and the relationship grows and you begin to grant the cats a lot of respect and they treat you better.
I have 3 cats and one stray has been with us for 4 years and just in the last several months has he recognized that I exist. But we are becoming friends and he make take 3-4 more years to really like me -- but that is how they are.
