You're right that Edwards is the one whose candidacy is hurt by Sharpton's run. So does this mean NPR is backing Edwards?

" So does this mean NPR is backing Edwards"
I was using Edwards as an example, but it wouldn't surprise me. Watch how the Democrats and liberal pundits act, when Sharpton's name is mentioned-their eyes glaze over for a second and then they act deaf. They totally ignore Sharpton because, they don't want to acknowledge he exists, during the upcoming election season. But,boy do the Democrats grovel in front of Al, during campaign season, when they want him to get out the vote. They all make the pilgrimage to Harlem to meet with Al and get his blessing when they need votes. I don't recall any Democrat politician refusing to meet Al-Gore went,Bradley went, the clinton's, of course.Lieberman has met with Al in DC .Hillary and Al co hosted a town hall meeting in Harlem when she was running for Senator. Bob Novak tries to question Democrats and liberal pundits on Crossfire about Sharpton and most of the time, they ignore his questions.I think the Democrats are afraid of Sharpton-if his candidacy gets enough publicity,he could cause a lot of trouble for them with their base.Al has said publically that he will "not be the battered wife" of the Democrat Party,so hopefully,he will not go quietly. It looks like it will be up to the conservative media, to remind black Democrats, that Al Sharpton is running for President !!
