I think every one this thread hates Sharpton. The disagreement is over the question, "What should be the nature of the relationship between the political leadership of the GOP and Sharpton?" Some want to use his personal appeal with Blacks to weaken the Democrats. Some want to play nice with him so as to not incur the wrath of Blacks who reflexively support him because he is an articulate spokesman. I propose we do something unique...tell the truth. Tell it loudly. Tell it continuously. Expose the cockroach to the light and and he will scurry away.

It amazes me how everyone totally accepts Buchanan's premise, when he did no reporting on this "story". He has no firsthand quotes from anyone involved. He's only commenting on a story in the newspaper and drawing his own conclusions. This is a COMMENTARY not a news article. Get a grip.

It was posted as such. It's a column.

Bill Frist led the charge to regain the Senate, He was the head of the 2002 National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) and through his excellent afforts managed to make history by winning back the Senate. The GOP owes a debt of gratitude for Bill Frist's efforts.

I have been contributing to the GOP for years and never before have I seen such a focus on a midterm election in all my life. Bill Frist is no fool and to fall for the tactics of a race baiter like Al Sharpton by refusing to meet with him or talk to him would make him no smarter than Trent Lott.

can you imagine the headlines on the NYT's if Frist was to say no to meeting with Al Sharpton?.... Let give you an example.... Bill Frist Tells Al Sharpton The GOP Is Not Interested In Listening To The Concerns Of Minorities"

Now ask yourself!!!! What harm did Frist do by talking to Shapton. And would more have been done by telling Sharpton to suck an Egg?

I disagree, Pat's biggest contribution to conservatives was leaving the party.

Frist meeting with Sharpton DOES compromise, in light of Lott's departure.

Compromise WHAT? The secret Dixiecrat platform Republicans are supposedly appealing to in coded language?

Frist meeting with Sharpton comprises absolutely nothing in the realm of reality. Especially in the light of Lott's departure.

Lott was the one compromising all over the map with the liberals and racebaiters in an attempt to redeem his name....turning on the GOP on BET in support of affirmative action etc.

And again...the increased influence and empowerment of Sharpton in respect to the 2004 election is far more a threat to Democrat unity than it could ever be to the GOP.

LOL. You're right. The image of the GOP has improved immensely with his departure.

I don't shut Pat out, I listen to him. And all I can say is that he is NEVER right. He was the first to say a war in Afghanistan would be another Vietnam. "A Quagmire"

Pat Buchanan is a reactionary and is completely incapable of learning from the past. I seriously doubt his knowledge of history could enable him to see beyond this mornings breakfast. He continually makes the same mistakes and he lets people like Al Sharpton push his buttons. Pat's record of failure should speak for itself. The guy is a stooge for the left, He falls for every trick they throw at him.

I hope he joins up with Ralph Nader, they're well suited for each other.

"What harm did Frist do by talking to Shapton."

POST #32 "But the vastly larger threat is for the GOP to lose its soul by doing obeisance to the devil."

Reagan's and Bush's appeal to the public is based in large part on the clarity of their vision. Their moral compass and their no nonsense approach to the telling the truth ("Evil Empire...Axis of Evil") If the GOP pretends that Sharpton is a legitimate leader of good character, that act devalues the integrity and appeal of the conservative cause.

"And would more have been done by telling Sharpton to suck an Egg?"

In a word...Yes. The public loves it when a huckster is
exposed.

What if Frist had said,
"I will not demean my African-American fellow citizens
by meeting with this self proclaimed representative who is actually a convicted liar and street hustler. I do not recognize a person of such low moral character to be a qualified representative for any group of American citizens. I will be pleased to meet with Larry Elder, Walter Williams, Armstrong Williams, Ward Connerly, James Golden or any other African-American of good character for discussions at any time."

He's made a lot of mistakes. His views concerning "The Death Of The West", the collapse of American culture due to our escalating Balkanization and the righteousness of standing up to race pimps is correct.

Maybe someone will ask him to justify capitulating to Marxist, Black-Power-lezbo Lenora Fulani. Certainly none of the hypocrite pitchforkers at FR will.

Bump.
