I think they messed up. If Lott said anything racist, I'd play Frank Sinatra music for a week [the worst torture I can think of]. Truman was president in '48, and he had ties to the KKK. This report is going to backfire, and all these quick-to-bash Lott guys are going to eat their words.

Truman had begun the process of joining the KKK years earlier, but backed out. As president, he desegregated the military, pushed for anti-lynching legislation, ect. This is what Thurmond objected to. If Truman was tainted by his earlier positions, Thurmond and a lot of people are even more tainted now. Only an ignoramus (or a liar) would say Truman was a racist president.

I just put some Sinatra on.
