Well, Yorkshire is split into three different "ridings", but I don't think they're political divisions... I'll make some calls on Monday and get to the bottom of this. Web sites seem to be devoid of this information. maybe it's some sort of Canadian Masons' secret.

Here is some mush from DU while you wait....
Raven (667 posts) Dec-07-02, 07:48 PM (ET) OK, I am weeping. New Hampshire Public Television has a program on tonight - all folk singers from the 60's. I am in tears. Not nostaglia, crying for what we didn't do. The songs bring back all of those great aspriations... government was going to be better under us... the world was going to be better... I'm watching the people in the audience - my age- they are crying too. I wonder if its for the same reason. What a shame, what a sorrow. How did we enable Bush. If you listen to all these songs, they are so full of love, hope and change. Jesus, what the hell happened to all of us? There is no music like this now, is there? Not that it matters in the long run, I guess. What a shame.

I realise that the article does not have any conclusions. The entire peice -IS- written in past tense. As if 'Republicans tried and failed'.
Exactly, but YOU are adding the words "and failed". The fact that Republicans tried to extend their majority and that Terrell mounted a "fierce challenge" are facts, regardless of who wins. The reporter doesn't use the present tense because the campaign is over. Sorry, but there is nothing in the story that merits any inference that the AP is calling the election for Landrieu, as you reported.
I'm not trying to say the AP isn't biased, but why alarm freepers with a strained inference into the reporter's use of the past tense. When Terrell wins, there is nothing about this story that needs to be retracted. Prove me wrong.

DU is "DemocraticUnderground.com", your National Socialist Site for the 21st Century. It's all gungrabbing, hate-speech law passing, and kumbaya over there. However, from time to time they get on an "Anti-Zionist" kick whenever things get going over in the Middle East. Nice to see them deal with their Inner Brownshirt.
Oh yeah, and they've got that pompous, self-righteous ass William Rivers Pitt, who for some reason can't call himself just plain "Bill".
Be Seeing You,
Chris

Wow, the Republican party is really reaching out putting up a lesbian candidate.

As far as I know, only Yorkshire has "ridings," and despite their seeming each to be about as much as an old circuit preacher could have covered with a horse, the philologists tell us that they are just a cutting up into THIRDS, in Old English, THRIDINGS, and the "th" ceased to be pronounced, and eventually, ceased to be written.
To: woofie
That is SO hillarious. Do you think you could post some more of those DU posts for us, at least until the returns start coming in?
To: Fury
What the Liberals REALLY need is thinking lessons!! LOL

Those numbers don't look good.

Hey! In Chicago, the RAT would have at least 15,000 votes with 0 precincts reporting!
To: Torie
Thanks for the info... no need to bother going there...
