We're almost certain MSNBC "Hardball" host Chris Matthews didn't meant to question New York Sen. Hillary's Clinton's sexual orientation Monday afternoon, when he offered a few offhanded observations to Boston radio talker Howie Carr on his interview with Mrs. Clinton last week.
But it sure sounded that way.
Coming out of a commercial break, the WRKO host played a clip of this exchange between Clinton and Matthews.
MATTHEWS: Someday do you think we'll have a woman president?
CLINTON: I sure hope so. Don't you?
MATTHEWS: And when that day comes and that woman is married she will not have a first lady, she will have a first gentleman.
CLINTON: First mate (laughs).
MATTHEWS: I'm going to get to that question later. Much later. That first mate, if it is a male, will be a First Gentleman...
Interrupting the audio clip, Carr asked Matthews, "What do you think she meant by that, Chris?"
"I don't know why she just didn't say First Gentleman," the TV talker replied, "because it would seem to me that would be a heterosexual response. But she offered me an alternative."
"Was that a Rosie O'Donnell response," queried Carr?
"No, I don't have any evidence to that affect," Matthews replied, before heading for safer waters.
"But I do think that the reason why she will never be actually elected president, no matter what happens ideologically in the country, no matter how far left we go, how screwed up the economy gets - because nobody wants him back in the White House," he told Carr.

Much as I can't stand the sight of her, I don't think she is that fast a thinker to chime in with a subtle sexist remark that might tip her filthy hand. She's not that bright.

She could have just been referring to the fact that she knows here husband is not a Gentleman. But I think she's a dyke. Just look how many dykes she has surrounded herself with over the years.
If I were in government, I wouldn't surround myself with Liberace, Rock Hudson, and Boy George if I was not gay. So we did she surround herself with Janet Reno, Donnan Shalala, and the many others?
To: Samizdat
Arrh, methinks she was only making a sailor joke.

She snickered 'cuz we already
had a First Gentleman:

And don't forget Hillary's dear, dear friend Susan Thomases ... only another dyke would want to hang out with her. She was really horrible!

I listened to part of Matthews promoting his book. His "No war with Iraq" mantra made me turn off the radio. I was
tempted to try to call in and ask him why he sucks up to Hillary so much.
Some show kept replaying the booing he got bringing her up, then his show with her in Albany. He and pMS ("America's
snooze channel" - Howie Carr) should be charged with consumer fraud for his completely misnamed "Hard Ball". Puhleeze.
Carr's wife's line was funny: "Oh, he's [Matthews] the one with all the plagarists on."
(Carr & Barnicle were cross paper rivals. I guess Matthews has a thing for Doris Kerns Goodwin, too. I wouldn't know.)

No, but she is that reflexively PC.

Puffball Mathews knows HeilRat is a middle of the road "It Takes a Proletariet" lesbian, but would never pull her out of the glass closet. The only question is if the ex-co-president HillaRat-Ratham-clinton wrote the questions or Christy wrote the answers??? Pathetic to try to draw viewers from O'Reily with that love-in.
Pray for GW and the Troops

I think too much is being read into this. There are two things going on:
Hillary is of that class of people who habitually neuter their language. They've trained themselves to do it. Preachers (those in that elite class) today rarely talk about "God and Man"--even when referring to Jesus individually, they say He is "God and Human." Not long ago, David Letterman used the word "Frenchman," and then corrected himself with "French person," with an air of embarrassment, as though he'd uttered a vulgarity.
She might actually have been making a joke, on the nautical term "First Mate."
