The alien ship crash was almost like a fake death scene. Kind of a "you got me". Or the aliens aren't very good at landing. I think they wanted to come down.

Spielberg sure does use almost every existing sci-fi element there is. I'd hate to see the director's cut release of this. Would probably take up about 40 VCR tapes.

Yep, Spielberg wasn't being original. Did he think we wouldn't remember Close Encounters? He could have wisked the child off to the Beach. After all, we know those space ships love water, LOL.

I don't know if I nailed it, VC? Kind of stupid, when "what's her name" entered the space craft like she did. AND, like you, I don't believe the ship is really disabled. Trick!

IF the Aliens start releasing people they captured from the 1940's, looking as if they arrived just yesterday, I'm REALLY gonna throw a shoe at the TV.

Stay tuned.

Yeah, it was way too easy to bring down the spaceship. I suspect the aliens will now disable the military's evil weapons and bathe the humans with unconditional love and warm hugs.
