USO Canteen FReeper Style ~ More Canteen Thanksgiving Messages to the Military ~ November 28 2002
68-69TonkinGulfYatchClub and FRiends of the Canteen

Posted on 11/28/2002 5:41:45 AM PST by 68-69TonkinGulfYachtClub

On the eve of Thanksging we paused to remember those who are overseas.
Many of our service men and women will be spending their 1st Thanksgiving
away from home, family and friends.
Today military stationed in the continental United States will be celebrating Thanksgiving.
It is because of their devotion to duty, honor and country
that we will be able to celebrate Thanksgiving.

Whew! Seeing how some of these kids would cook a turkey makes me glad I'm a vegetarian. LOL!! The things kids come up with. These are funny!

I missed all the fun, what wheels. But then the turkey I forced into the oven today would find that transportation too small.

What a monster that bird was, we had a terrible fight, me trying to pen it's wings under it. I fought and wrestled that thing, at one point I think I had my leg up on the kitchen counter.

I felt eyes on me, my dog and cat were sitting next to each other watching the show and pullin for me, "go mommy". Either that or they were laying bets on the best two out of three falls.

I hope you and all the Canteener's had a great Thanksgiving, and I wanted to say, God bless our troops, I hope your Thanksgiving was blessed.

These are some fabulous pics taken aboard the USS Abraham Lincoln, tomkow. It's nice to see our troops getting a chance to relax a bit and enjoy some entertainment.

Uuumm, isn't the turkey supposed to be dead before you put it in the oven? sorry. I just couldn't resist. LOL!!

I haven't decided if I was brave or foolish but I cooked today and didn't offer the first tidbit to any of our 36 cats. What I was hearing from them was, "grrrrrrrrr, mommy". hahahaha!

Dead first huh? OK, that is where I went wrong.=o)

I don't think I would have the nerve to face down all those cats and hold out of them, they can be sneaky. Watch your back, he he.

I wouldn't have had the nerve to ignore the kitties if I hadn't has a house full of people to save me. LOL!! When cooking alone, I usually put half of them outside so I don't have as many to fight off. I just had them all inside today to prove there really are 36 of 'em. Some folks who were here had never been here before and I believe they'd thought I'd been lying about it. They were stunned and amazed today. hehehehehe!

In all fairness to the cats, they actually behaved quite well. That stunned and amazed me!

I can easily believe 36 cats, my aunt had something like 110 or 111 of them, but she lived on a farm, she would not part with a single one of them.

My outside cat population is growing, one stray was hanging around so I put a bowl out to feed him, now I have three bowls out there. No mice around here. Tomorrow everyone gets turkey, house pets and outside ones.

Wow - it's 1:34 a.m. so Thanksgiving is technically over. Unequivocally the best I've had in years. Clear skies, good food and company, no construction on I-10 (what a miracle).

Linda - wonderful to see you back!

Bonsoir,
SG

Oooooh, I have nightmares of becoming like your aunt one day. I hope our population doesn't grow anymore. I love my critters dearly but I often feel overwhelmed. Imagine that! hahaha!

All of these guys and gals are spayed/neutered but people have a tendency to drop off unwanted cats in this general area. I swear there's a sign out front that only cats can see that reads, "Suckers live here. Come on, strays." We live on a farm, also, so we have the room for them all.

Only a couple of them are good at catching mice, chipmunks, and the like. The rest are only good at catching BIG, juicy bugs. ergh!!!!

Like you, I'm going to give these critters some turkey with their breakfast. I might be overwhelmed sometimes but I spoil them every chance I get. :-D

It is still being tedious. It locks up, I have to do a Cntrl, Alt, delete, wait to get back to the desk top and reopen my DSL, log onto FR and begin again with my fingers crossed that it will allow me to post before it happens again.

I am suspecting that this music system my son installed might have something to do with it. It started shortly after, but then again it might just be a hardware problem.

I'm trying to live with it until after Christmas, hoping it doesn't go completely down, who needs this kind of expense this time of year?
