I vote for a Condor. Big, ugly vulture destined for extinction, being temporarily saved from it's pre-determined fate by the liberals in this country.

Pheonix, rising from the ashes is a good symbol for the party. They see themselves as totally destroyed.

The Eagle
The Eagle represents power, courage and eminence. Its color symbolizes the flag color of the Great Prophet Mohammad (peace be upon Him), messenger of God. The eagle, with wings spread across the flags, stands on a Globe.
The Globe
The Globe, in blue, represents the spreading of Islam and its civilization in the world.

I own the pin--and love it. It is an eagle. Hillary let Bill's secretary wear hers during the Monica deposition and Ann Lewis wears one.
The best way to "dilute" the significance of the pin as a liberal sign of patriotism is for EVERY CONSERVATIVE WOMAN TO WEAR ONE! How can they claim it as their own, a little symbol of their "sisterhood", if every time you see a Republican, she has one on?
They need a pin that better symbolizes their party--perhaps a donkey's rear with the tail cut short and a band-aid on its rump!

Your idea has merit but the pin is already heavily associated with Hillary; so I think it is too late to change that impression.
However...to express a patriotic spirit....wearing Old Glory .....sends the clearer message!
It is the American Flag that represents our nation. The eagle is the national bird while the stars & stripes represent our 50 states & the original 13 colonies that founded the United States of America!

dodo bird.

The point though is that Landreiu (sp ?) is wearing the pin to show her loyalty to the Clinton's, and their agenda, while publically maintaining HER "ties" to Bush in her speeches.
So this way, she CAN still tie her fashions in to the TV and photographers who adore Clinton (and who won't mention her pin!) and pull democratic women's support. Subtle, isn't it?
Now, which is her true intentions?
How has she voted during Clinton's administration?

I really would like to see this pin side by side with the Nazi emblem. Somehow, I think they are curiously similar.

I thought this reminded me of Nazi insignia. Check out this combat helmet:
