2. The S. Vietnamese were cowards.

I wanna make sure, you're presenting that statement as a perception of the '60's left, right?

I ask only because almost all cases of South Vietnamese units with cohesion and morale problems that effected their fighting ability could be attributed to poor leadership at various levels of command. A well trained and lead S. Vietnamese soldier was as brave as any.

The radical counterculture liberalism of the 1960s has finally completed its demolition of the New Deal Democrat majority

All signs point to the fact that they are still busy demolishing the majority they once held. Apparently they still haven't figured the message the American people are sending out. Their agenda has moved towards extremism on almost every issue: including gun control, abortion, gay rights, the environment, political correctness, and foreign policy.

These extreme positions on so many issues has eroded their base and delivered them to the Republicans. Yet, the continue their leftward march.

They will continue to have minor victories but will continue also to decline further into minority status until there is a revolt within the party and the monkey of modern leftism is thrown off their backs. Right now, supported by large contributors and the mass media, the Democraic party does not appear will to go there. It continues to move further to the left.

Gore, the last one it seems to get a clue, is moving as rapidly away from any appearance of moderation he may have previously projected. If he keeps it up, he will insure more victories for the Dems.

But back to the real subject ... I am (by the standards of most here) a liberal, but I am amazed at how many progressives have lost sight of the fact that sometimes you just gotta fight.

Yes, but fight whom? Before, they can fight the Republicans, they will have to fight and conquer the cancerous radical left which has the Democratic party by the throat and has destroyed the foundation upon which it once enjoyed majority status.

Yes, but fight whom?

Isn't the answer obvious?

In the 60's and 70's the "progressives" insisted that the North Vietnamese were the victims. No matter that the U.S. and the South Vietnamese had no intention of conquering the North, and were quite willing to conclude a peace allowing North and South to exist in mutual peace and security. No matter that the North Vietnamese were objectively the agressors, with an explicit policy of subjugating the South to communist rule by violent, warlike means.

The facts don't matter to "progressives" any more today. Consider the issue of Israel and Palestine. Again black is white. The objective agressors -- who have started a war (the "Al Aqsa Intifada") with the intent and effect of sabtotaging a peace agreement which had every prospect (absent such a war and the agressive bloodlust driving it) of leading to the creation of a Palestinian state to exist in mutual peace and security with Israel -- are hailed by "progressives" as the oppressed victims.

Again, the answer is obvious. "Progressives" clearly believe in fighting against civil democratic (or democratizing) states and societies who seek peaceful relations with their neighbors. "Progressives" are all but unremittingly PRO-WAR when it comes to violent insurgencies or aggressive attacks on such nations.
