Lodwicks quote "I think an entire thread could be devoted to Our Favorite Uncle stories"

What a great idea. Okay hostesses...what do you think, uncles or old codger parents...friend... could be really cool!

daisy and dansangel...I mentioned a laptop to Mr. D. tonight because of your advice. He got a sparkle in his eye (he LOVES new technology) but how do you internet connect if your away from home, at a hotel or whatever. Remember you guys are the ones who are still teaching me how to post pictures LOL!

Hi D,

You have to subscribe to a dial-up service (I have both MSN and Earthlink - that way I'm covered in finding an access number).

When you're on the road, you put in the area code that you are dialing in from and you will be givien a list of local access phone numbers to choose from. Select a number and connect. It's fairly simple!

The last hotel we stayed at in St. Simons charged 50 cents for each outgoing local call (rip-off city!). Of course, I could stay connected for hours on end and only pay 50 cents. However, when you get kicked off (which often happens with dial-up) it's frustrating to think you have to pay another 50 cents to hook up again.

I hope Santa is good to you!

PS....I almost forget....you will also need a short length of telephone wire. Most all hotels have modem hook-ups on the room telephone (an external jack to connect to located on the phone - "data port.")
