GOLDSBORO, N.C. (AP) -- Republicans gained at least a tie in the North Carolina House on Friday when recounts showed them winning two disputed races over prominent Democrats, and the GOP led another high-profile count still under way.
A Republican sweep of the recounts would give the party a 61-59 advantage over the Democrats.
The recount for District 11, centered about 40 miles southwest of Raleigh, was expected to be completed Friday afternoon. Republican Louis Pate, mayor of Mount Olive, remained ahead of House Majority Leader Phil Baddour late Thursday after a partial hand recount.
In far-east District 3, a recount in Craven and Pamlico counties showed Republican Michael Gorman winning by 183 votes over Democratic incumbent Alice Graham Underhill, the daughter of Jim Graham, elected as the state's agriculture commissioner for 36 years. Unofficial results last week had given Gorman a 182-vote lead.
And in District 17, covering part of the Fayetteville area, a machine recount completed Thursday gave Republican lawyer Bonner Stiller a 169-vote lead over Democratic Rep. David Redwine, a 10-term veteran. Stiller had unofficially led by 163 votes last week.
Results will be certified next week by the state Board of Elections.

In other news, the Black Knight formerly known as Terry McAuliffe claimed that the loss of the NC House was "just a flesh wound."

You know it's like they're never going to finish that recount. It's kind of like the one we had here in Wake County for sheriff. The Republicans won the legislature

The dems still control the NC Senate (28 to 22). That's better than it was before the election (I think we picked up 6 seats). It's about time the voters in this state gave our guys a chance. The dems have been screwing it up for years. Now if we could just get rid of Easley (sorry excuse for a governor), we could make some real progress.

Wish the GOP could take charge in the State of Washington. I'm so sick of the democrazies running the state because the west side (primarily King County) is more populated and heavily democrazy leaving us with the likes of Gary Locke, Patty "Moron" Murray and Maria Cant"budget"well. The only thing that could help the GOP is for King County to have a massive loss of business resulting in high enough unemployment for people to move out of King County and out of the state. Unfortunately, with the number of billionaires and millionaires residing in King County, I don't expect that to occur. Even though I really don't like to see anyone unemployed, that appears to be the only way the GOP is going to take control of the state governorship and legislature.

Sorry, I couldn't resist!
Besides, it's "far-east". That's code for "conservative" if I've ever heard it!

Those Republican Freepers in NC, who are fortunate enough to have a Republican representative in the NC House, need to urge their representatives to support the choice of the Republican caucus for Speaker.
We have a couple of snakes in the woodpile, and they need to feel the heat.
