Florida really surprised me on November 5th. I had always thought Florida was by-and-large Conservative and the Election of 2000 illustrated to the nation how four counties heavily populated by dependents of government handouts can skew the vote totals of an entire state. What a difference two years makes!

Florida is a swing state. Jeb is the FIRST Reppublican Governor ever re-elected in history and only the third ever (the other two, Claude Kirk and Bob Martinez, were trounced by Dem Socialist opponents when up for reelection). The only truly conservative Senators the state ever had were Pauline Hawkins and Connie Mack. Other than that, the state only elected moderates and liberals who posed as moderates (see Lawton Chiles, Bob Graham).

Hell, the area I went to high school in (Boca Raton, Palm Beach County) is just as liberal as Manhattan.

Actually, one of the great aspects (little reported by the media) of the 2002 election was that Jeb won Miami-Dade county. Viva los Cubano-Americanos!
