A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day....11-06-02 How Sweet It Is!!

A Few of FR's Finest.....
......Every Day

FR is a Treasure Trove of talented, compassionate, patriotic, wonderful people who gather every day to discuss the latest news and issues; salute and support our military and our leaders;  tell a few jokes;  learn a new word;  write poetry;  pray for those in need;  and congratulate those who are deserving. Thank you, Jim Robinson, for giving us the vehicle in which we can express ourselves.

Free Republic made its debut in September, 1996, and the forum was added in early 1997.   I can remember lurking when there were only a few regulars who posted, and now there are over 60,000 who have registered for posting privileges. The forum is read daily by tens of thousands of concerned citizens and patriots from all around the country and the world.

A Few of FR's Finest November 11, 2001

So many people have written me since my original Veteran's Day Tribute, asking how they, or a loved one, could be included in that tribute. Since I can no longer add the photos to the body of the thread, I've been including them in additional posts as I received enough to make another collage.

Still that doesn't seem to be enough. I think there's never been a better nor more appropriate time to keep the faces of our own Veterans and Active Military in front of FReepers--every day! That's why I wanted to do yet another Daily Thread .....ABOUT FReepers .....and FOR FReepers. But not only about our Military FReepers; for all FReepers! Wouldn't it be nice to get to know a few of the other FReepers as well? That's why, in addition to seeing FR's Finest Military Personnel every day, I thought it might be fun to feature a different FReeper (or FReepers) each day. If you would like to be pictured, or know someone who would, please FReepmail me and we'll turn the spotlight - on YOU - for the day!

And do let me know if you'd like your picture added to the groups of Veterans/Active Military below. I will keep this page updated, and continue to add them to the comment section of the original Veteran's Day thread as well.

HOW SWEET IT IS!

She flies the Florida Flag, and flies it as proudly as she does Old Glory. Below is a recent photo of JulieRNR21 with Katherine Harris, taken at a neighborhood coffee for Ms. Harris' Congressional Campaign. Julie is very active in helping to get, and keep, the Republican candidates in office.

The above was taken from our Spotlight on Julie on July 2, 2002. She has worked so very hard on both Ms. Harris' and Jeb Bush' campaigns, and oh, how sweet the rewards. This morning some of us received an email from Julie, and it was so special I asked her if I could share it here with all of FR. She said yes, and how sweet it us, Friends:
Dear Family & Friends:
As you probably know I'm a Republican who would 'walk over glass' to vote. Well, I've got sore feet today, not from glass but from fire ant bites.
Those nasty stingers got me yesterday when I stood with other dedicated GOP volunteers at the busiest intersections in Sarasota waving signs for JEB and Katherine Harris.
How sweet it is......Clinton, Gore & McAuliffe targeted Florida to defeat JEB and Katherine.....they lost and we won.....big time. Our President put his reputation on the line and campaigned hard for our candidates.....Americans responded by giving him the opportunity to break through the Daschle Senate stonewall!!
Last night we attended the victory party for Katherine Harris at the Sarasota Hyatt. As the evening unfolded...the good news just kept coming from everywhere. All the grassroots 'get out the vote' efforts certainly produced the results we were all hoping for!!!!
I had the chance to tell Katherine Harris: 'Two years ago the Democrats tried to destroy you for following the law. Tonight we sent them a message by sending you to Congress!' She gave me a bear hug and kiss on the cheek and tears filled her eyes!
Then I asked for her autograph on my sign....the one I was waving when those pesky fire ants got me! The sores & swelling will go away in a few days.....but I'll always have that permanent momento of our decisive victory!
Clintonism is dead! Praise be to God!
Viva DUBYA!
Viva JEB!
Viva KATHERINE!
How sweet it is!!!
~Julie

     3) In the next box enter your name in the "Calendar Text" field and then click on submit.
     4) If any of the screens fail to load simply click on refresh in your browser and that will usually fix it.

"In CA, we have alienated the Latino vote....and those are people who share many conservative values."

That's the whole thing, feiney!

Like I said, the people I was with yesterday are my type of people - salt of the earth, working class people.
We share the same values, and yet they view us as "evil, rich white folks".
We sorely need some black leaders to turn that idea around.

Sadly, JC Watts is retiring. The real problem is that the black leaders we do have like Clarence Thomas, Colin Powell and Condi Rice get dismissed as "Uncle Toms" by the liberal black leaders. We have Rev. Jesse Lee Peterson to combat Jesse Jackson....but Jesse Lee gets called a race traitor. There is a belief amonst blacks (and Jews) that voting for Republicans is just bad. I am not sure how to combat that brain washing.

The problem is that working class minority Democrats are living in the past.
The Republican Party is today what the Democratic Party was fifty to seventy five years ago.
The Republican Party was at one time the elitist political party with tons of money, and they never tried to garner support from the working class.
They didn't need it.
The Democratic Pary was the party of my father, and he would have cut off both arms before voting Republican.
He hated their complete indifference to the needs of the working class.
But he accepted the socialistic programs of FDR like he was God.

Possibly this is just a matter of time when the younger minorities become separated far enough from the ideas of their grandfathers that they can see for themselves.

That is so funny. In the past whenever my mom came over you could always smell her brakes burning when she got here because she could never remember to release the emergency brake. I finally convinced her to stop using her emergency brake.

LOL - Dang Angel - what a harsh assessment of female type drivers. Like most things we've got good and bad in both groups and I remember reading that you were plenty good at the shooting range with a weapon you'd never seen.

Maybe the tragic ones are all 'rats. ;-)

heheheheh....how many times have any of us done that? Prior to my current "smart" car that ***"dings"*** when I forget to release the brake, I'd come close to burning up the emergency brake many a time!

What you describe is true in the so-called Deep South, too, Cobby.
Everyone took Daddy's word as fact, and the local Good Old Boys' Network was very much in play.
Things changed!

That the old Democrats and present day ones do not resemble one another eludes many of those who do not look - or are not perceptive.

With the advent of television, however, and the Internet, it is easier to see the truth - or untruths - of individuals and party directions.
In the 30's through 50's, you seldom had personal contact with the Big Boys.
Now news and details about their efforts is within easy reach, no matter whether you are in a rural or city area.

On the whole, too, we are more confident in reaching our own conclusions, don't you think?
That, perhaps, is more applicable to today's women - when you and I were young and most women homemakers, they usually fell into step with what the males in their world thought.

Another factor is the mobility of families, seeking upward movement in jobs, or forced to move in specialized work.
Not only are they in areas where 'Daddy's Thoughts' are not relevant, but there is no familiar network to reinforce them.
Local factors heavily influence and shape their views.

Today, there is no excuse for not being informed, except for the old enemies - indifference and complacency.

As you ably point out, our responsibility is to provide quiet and nonconfrontational education so they can make more informed choices.

Good post and correct observations on the myriad of societal factors contributing to the otherwise unexplicable existence of 'rats. Thanks for this one.

Be a host or a parasite, pubbie or 'rat - it's your choice.

Be still, my heart!!
Thanks, Valerie. I love the autumn landscapes.

This year I mourn the fact the local counties have already mowed the roadsides, denuding the miles and miles of glorious goldenrod.
I had not yet gathered bouquets of them and Queen Anne's Lace to place in containers....
