I can really understand how you might feel that way, but at the same time, it's a little hard to suppress the slight anger I have at those that earn that epithet after watching the terrible results from it in my state of NJ today.
Whitman appointed or reconfirmed 6 of the 7 justices that allowed Lautenberg to be put on the ballot today, all so she could be sure the NJSC would always support any and all abortions. Then she was surprised when they showed exactly as much respect for the legislature over election law as they would have over abortion law.
And aside from Chafee and his ilk voting for Lott over the leadership roles, I can't remember too many close votes where he didn't break ranks, just to show he could.
Anyway, since it looks like I'm only going to be presented with choices between Democrats and Socialists (adjusting the relative political scales to match the rest of the country), I'm seriously having to consider registering as a Democrat so that I can at least tone down the democrat I'm apparently going to have to live under anyway. It's become painfully obvious to me that no Republican (again adjusting the scales to fit the rest of the country) will ever win a statewide election here.
Schundler was a good choice last year, but we forced him on the party in the primaries and the party made us pay for it.
I hope someone surprises me someday.
