So friends are urging him to run? With friends like that, who needs enemies?

Methinks the rats will be greatly pleased when the anti-Christ shows up as they will finally have a viable candidate.

What a precious time to be an informed conservative. This retreading of the old time liberal guard is so incredible, and so very indicative of the bankrupcy of the liberal movement.

He said the nation needs leadership and ideas, and friends are urging him to seek the Democratic nomination again

Notwithstanding the monkey business, isn't Hart a fairly conservative democrat? I find it odd that he said "the nation needs leadership and ideas" on election day. I view this as a bit%h-slap to Sen. Daschle and his no-agenda obstructionist pals.

Your choice of adjective to describe the slap is a good one. Because his timing, waiting until his party is circling the bowl on election day, makes this pronouncement little more than a whine to my mind.

a true story: in the mid 80's i owned and operated a small store in a very small town in northeast, La. The mayor was not well liked and the police chief(whom i graduated high school with) and a couple of others came to my store one day to ask if i would run against the present mayor. I told them No. when they asked why not, i replied, i have enough people calling me a s.o.b. now and i certainly don't want to give any others reason to.

Hart was one of the goofs who was trying to become a hippie when it was too late in life to do so. He was an idiot 20 years ago and he's still an idiot now. He and Patsey Shroder are Colorado's equivalents of California's Governor Moonbeam Jerry Brown.

Hell, WHY NOT? The only thing that stopped him before was Donna Rice and THE MEDIA! Gary Hart was just ahead of his time!

Oh, but that's not what you meant when you said "public service"--is it? You want what Hillary! means when she uses that term:

1. Power
2. Percs 3. Prestige

There's the quote of the week at FR.

May I add

4. Attention.

I find it odd that he said "the nation needs leadership and ideas" on election day.

------------------------------

You must be new in politics. Announcing for political office is a two step. The candidate first issues a call for new readershi. A week later he or she announces that since nobody else has responded to that call( in spite of the fact 15 other people are running) he will make the supreme sacrifice and volunteer to run.

He said the nation needs leadership and ideas, and friends are urging him to seek the Democratic nomination again.

And dusting off an old campaign retort, former Vice President Mondale responded with "Oh yeah, sonny boy? Well, where's the soy-based, hydrogenated beef-product mush?"

There's the quote of the week at FR.

"There is a chance for the President of the United States to use the disaster (9/11). . . to carry out what his father - a phrase his father used I think only once, and it hasn't been used since - and that is a New World Order."

Senator Gary Hart, Sept. 14, 2001

Hart's biggest mistake was running for president in 1984 instead of 1992. Imagine, we could have had a mud-wrestling match between Donna Rice and Gennifer Flowers.

What ever happened to "Don't stop thinking about tomorrow?" All we're seeing lately is retreads from the D.Rats. Maybe yesterday is all they have left.
