Last week, a whitehouse spokesman used the word "embryo" in the identical term as "fetus". In secular terms, the word "fetus" doesn't kick in until the 8th week of pregnancy.
Just a guess....

Psalm 139. Wiser men did not need pictures to know when life began.
For You formed my inward parts;
You wove me in my mother's womb.
I will give thanks to You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
Wonderful are Your works,
And my soul knows it very well.
My frame was not hidden from You,
When I was made in secret,
And skillfully wrought in the depths of the earth;
Your eyes have seen my unformed substance;
And in Your book were all written
The days that were ordained for me,
When as yet there was not one of them.

I am sure this has been mentioned, but...
I was astounded by the slight-of-hand in the caption of the baby. The Caption reads:
At eight months, the baby gets ready for its grand entrance into the world
This would lead one to believe that this is an eight month old fetus in the picture. That is a four month old fetus. While, I guess, this is not technically a lie, it is at least an inappropriate caption. More probably, they didn't want the Time soccer-moms to be faced with the truth of what is routinely aborted.

That was my thoughts, exactly. A four week old does not exactly look like a glob of tissue.

Observe the miracle of life. Then imagine that miracle having it's brain sucked out because it's "inconvenient." That's the NARAL agenda in a nutshell. Who looks at these pictures and drives by an abortion clinic without shuddering at Nazi-style horror in the name of "choice"? And liberals have cornered the market on compassion.

"Such images of life stirring in the womb--in this case, of a 17-week-old fetus no bigger than a newborn kitten..." Why do some people, who would never do anything to harm a kitten, advocate the murder of human? All that killing wrapped up in the "right to choose." I'll never understand it.
The utter complexity of life; the magical way in which it all works has lead me to absolute faith in a higher power. There's no way everything was just an accident.

Antiabortion activists may interpret them as evidence that a fetus is a viable human being earlier than generally believed, while pro-choice advocates may argue that the new technology allows doctors to detect serious fetal defects at a stage when abortion is a reasonable option.Gee, I wonder if they are biased a bit!

One of the greatest expositions of that passage I've ever seen is Peter Leithart's Attacking the Tabernacle.

Like Nilsson's work, these images will probably spark controversy. Antiabortion activists may interpret them as evidence that a fetus is a viable human being earlier than generally believed, while pro-choice advocates may argue that the new technology allows doctors to detect serious fetal defects at a stage when abortion is a reasonable option. They did mention it, but didn't get it right.
1) "antiabortion" activists (why not pro-life?) don't argue about the "viability" of the human being in the womb, we argue that the unborn child IS a human being, whether "viable" (i.e. capable of living outside the womb) or not and therefore needs equal protection under the law.
2) pro-choice advocates don't argue for abortion in order to "terminate" a pregnancy if there are physical defects, they argue to on behalf of killing the unborn for any reason at any time. Abortion is ALWAYS a "reasonable" option for them, otherwise they wouldn't argue so emphatically for partial-birth and other late term abortions!

I read this article and then went to bn.com and ordered the book. It's $40, but I think worth it. I'm pregnant with my fourth baby and we have Nilsson's book "A Child is Born" which I love, and I used it to show my older children how the baby is growing at each stage. I think this new book will be great for them as well, and me too!

Oops, missed it. I've been swamped with work lately, and I've been scanning the articles on quick breaks. Thanks for pointing that part of the article out for me.

Psalm 139. Wiser men did not need pictures to know when life began. True, but even St. Thomas needed proof that Jesus in fact rose from the dead. Did that make him any less loved in the eyes of our Lord? Many early Christian converts were converted because of what their eyes saw -- miracles brought forth by Jesus and his disciples. Others saw the same miracles and did not believe -- they had no faith, even though their eyes saw.

As the chief spokesape, we are keenly interested in any evidence that you may provide that we are soon (years, decades, centuries, millenniums, etc.), as the ape population, going to 'evolve' to the next level.
Being a highly evolved ape, the rest of the ape population looks to me for answers and evidence to support such claims with 'baited breath', as we have bought into these tempest arguments for over a century already...

Re #37: True, but I was quoting (and replying to) txzman, whose italicized comment prefaces his citation from Psalm 139. My only part of that post was the link to Peter Leithart's "Attacking the Tabernacle."

Apologies! Goes to show what happens when I skip over some comments! :-)
