Ramadan Next Monday

October 31, 2002 Posted to the web October 31, 2002

Accra

The Hilal Committee of Ghana said yesterday the first sighting of the new moon for this year's Ramadan is Monday 29 of Sha'ban that is, November 4, 2002.

A statement from National Chief Imam and Ameer in in-charge of Ahmadiyya Muslim Mission in Ghana and signed by Sheikh M.M. Gedel, Acting Chairman of the Hilal Committee said if the new moon was sighted anywhere in Ghana on Monday November 4, fasting by all faithful would begin on the next day,

November 5.

It said however, if the sighting of the new moon becomes impossible on November 4, which is the 29th day of Sha'ban then November 5, should be counted as 30th day of Sha'ban.

In that case, Wednesday November 6th, automatically becomes the first day of Ramadan.

The statement said for the purposes of effective communication regarding reports about the sighting of the new moon anywhere, the following telephone numbers should be contacted: 021-248496, 021-244824, 021-221872, 021-303211, 021-679705,

020-8118894, 027-57687 and 027-610754.

It also urged Muslims to report the sighting of the moon in the districts to the Regional Chief Imams and Regional Missionaries of Ahmadiyya Muslim Mission Ghana for onward transmission to the secretariat of the Hilal Committee.

All Muslims are encouraged to make it a sacred duty to sight the new moon and report accordingly.

I say we start the bombing of Iraq about halfway through Ramadan. Let the chitheads scurry home and grab a rifle.

I found this interesting from the web site:

Question: What is correct Qibla direction from North America, North-East or South-East? Some people show on the flat map that Qibla should be South-East.

Answer: Earth is NOT flat as some people still believe. No one can give them knowledge except Allah. But those who ponder on this have clearly seen that the earth is approximately round. Earth's shadow on moon is visible at Moon Eclipse, and it is always round. Other proofs of roundness are observations; when a sailing- away ship is seen on the horizon for a distance it vanishes slowly going below horizon, etc.

For Qibla direction, when people debate the direction for North America as being North-East or South-East, the problem is lack of understanding that the earth is not flat so you should not look at flat map. The round earth gives a different perspective. If you look at the globe then may be you will see that the direction from Alaska to Makkah is due North, although Makkah is South of Alaska. If there were a minaret over Ka'bah that was so high that it reaches the sky, then you could see it from Nova Scotia and it would be in North-East direction. In fact the sun comes approximately overhead above Ka'bah on two dates every year. That is like a minaret over ka'bah. Read about it on my Qibla direction page And you will understand the correct direction of Qibla, from North America in general is North-East, except on North-west corner of USA and Alaska where Qibla is almost North.

Oh great, we have to hear again about how we can’t attack them during that month. It seems like we just stopped hearing it from last year. Except of course for the little known “War of Ramadan”. Yes that’s right, there was such a war. It seems they only don’t want a war during that month when they know there about to get beat up worse than ever before. Does anyone remember the last time the Arabs won a war against non-Arab foes? Maybe the 8th century, but nothing since.

Well, this Sunday, like every Sunday, is Sunday School followed by the main church service. Christians pray, praise, reflect, read our Bibles, listen to a sermon by our pastor, and enjoy Christian fellowship on Sundays during our worship services. By the way, we pray every day and every night. Never doubt the power of prayer! We try to read and study the Bible daily. We often attend special Bible studies and/or church services during the week.

"I say we start the bombing of Iraq about halfway through Ramadan."

You took the words right out of my mouth. If it's good enough for the Taliban, it's good enough for Saddamned.

I wonder if the Navy & Air Force cooks are collecting Bacon Grease to coat the bombs. Something about that brings a smile to my face.

I have too long wondered why we saved bacon grease during WW11. I even googled it to no avail. Was this the reason or am I being stupid?

I have no idea why that was saved. Probably for cooking with instead of using cooking oil? I think this would be a better use for the stuff myself. :-)
