A Few of FR's Finest..... ......Every Day
FR is a Treasure Trove of talented, compassionate, patriotic, wonderful people who gather every day to discuss the latest news and issues; salute and support our military and our leaders; tell a few jokes; learn a new word; write poetry; pray for those in need; and congratulate those who are deserving. Thank you, Jim Robinson, for giving us the vehicle in which we can express ourselves.
Free Republic made its debut in September, 1996, and the forum was added in early 1997. I can remember lurking when there were only a few regulars who posted, and now there are over 60,000 who have registered for posting privileges. The forum is read daily by tens of thousands of concerned citizens and patriots from all around the country and the world.

A Few of FR's Finest November 11, 2001
So many people have written me since my original Veteran's Day Tribute, asking how they, or a loved one, could be included in that tribute. Since I can no longer add the photos to the body of the thread, I've been including them in additional posts as I received enough to make another collage.
Still that doesn't seem to be enough. I think there's never been a better nor more appropriate time to keep the faces of our own Veterans and Active Military in front of FReepers--every day! That's why I wanted to do yet another Daily Thread .....ABOUT FReepers .....and FOR FReepers. But not only about our Military FReepers; for all FReepers! Wouldn't it be nice to get to know a few of the other FReepers as well? That's why, in addition to seeing FR's Finest Military Personnel every day, I thought it might be fun to feature a different FReeper (or FReepers) each day. If you would like to be pictured, or know someone who would, please FReepmail me and we'll turn the spotlight - on YOU - for the day!
And do let me know if you'd like your picture added to the groups of Veterans/Active Military below. I will keep this page updated, and continue to add them to the comment section of the original Veteran's Day thread as well.

(The above APOD Banner Graphic is courtesy of Nick Zivanovic of the Calumet Astronomical Society. Nick grants permission for use of this banner on other websites.)
Petuniasevan started posting the Astronomy Picture of the Day in March 2002. She thought it would be a great way to introduce interested FReepers to the wonders of the universe. She obtains the links for this thread from NASA.
Each day a different image or photograph of our fascinating universe is featured, along with a brief explanation written by a professional astronomer. Petuniasevan adds an Astronomy Fun Fact. She pings interested FReepers to the thread and provides additional commentary. leads discussions and answers questions.
Petuniasevan has suggested the following as memorable APOD's.
October 18 2002
March 24 2002
April 24 2002
June 10 2002
July 20 2002
August 24 2002
September 23 2002
petuniasevan Freeper since 12-14-00
Petuniasevan is from California but she is currently living in Wisconsin with her husband, FReeper poorman.
Petuniasevan became interested in astronomy at an early age and got her first telescope at age six. Currently, she is telescope-deprived but plans to remedy that within a couple of years. She is comparing 'scopes and window shopping.
Favorite threads on FR (besides APOD) are: A Day in the Life of President Bush, (she is a Bush Bot and a distant cousin of the Bush family), veteran-oriented threads, and humor threads (she's on the HMB ping list). She works rotating shifts so it's hard to "hang out" at any of the regular threads, but if her schedule permitted, she would "hang out"at the Daily Dose.
"WI FReeper Get Together"
Petuniasevan and poorman coordinated and organized a WI FReeper get-together at the Prime Quarter Steak House in Appleton WI this past Spring. As with most FReeper social events, everyone enjoyed each other's company and discussed FR activism, politics, ongoing projects, as well as personal hobbies and interests. A good time was had by all.

"Military Service"
Petuniasevan proudly served in the U.S. Air Force 1984-1988 as an aircraft mechanic (B-52G Bombers) at Barksdale AFB, Louisiana. The patches show are, left to right, Air Force Strategic Air Command, Air Force 2nd Bomb Wing. and Air Force 2nd Organizational Maintenance Squadron.
THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE TO OUR COUNTRY, PETUNIASEVAN.
"Just for Fun"
Petuniasevan's webpage has a neat link to over 100 smiley faces and over 100 bumper stickers. It can be accessed through her Profile Page. For a rollicking good time, take a look.
CONGRATULATIONS PETUNIASEVAN ENJOY YOUR DAY AS ONE OF FR'S FINEST

1) Click on the graphic to open the Calendar. 2) Once there you can click on any month and even click to the right to go into next year. Once you are in the month that you joined FR you will need to click on the number in the calendar and then an add item screen will come up. 3) In the next box enter your name in the "Calendar Text" field and then click on submit. 4) If any of the screens fail to load simply click on refresh in your browser and that will usually fix it. 5) If all else fails or simply if you want me to do this for you send me an FReepmail and I will gladly do it for you. ~Mixer |

RE: FR , I'm just glad I don't have to fix it! I have enough trouble with pictures. :)

Your vacation getaway sounds great...We did a feature a while back-don't know if you were here then-on FReeper Backhoe who lives in Brunswick-his family has lived there for years. We learnt so much about the area. Have a great trip...
I picked this graphic in keeping with our International Theme this week, lol...

What a day...I guess petuniasevan will see your nice message someday...lol...She works the swingshift so about the time she got up this morning to join us, FR went down. And it has been up and down all day....Perhaps when she gets home from work later some of us will still be here and maybe FR will be totally fixed. It is not there yet, still takes forever to post...
To: graycamel
Enjoyed your post. Nice to hear from the college set. I must tell you that there are liberal professors in most universities unless you attend an ultra-conservative school and even then......
To: WVNan; graycamel
Great advice Nan. Listen up, graycamel-she knows of which she speaks..
To: daisyscarlett
Sorry I didn't get a chance to stop in this afternoon - I went to log on and FR was DOWN!
I appreciate all the well-wishers who stopped by. If anyone wants on the APOD ping list, have them drop me a FReepmail or stop by the daily APOD.
Did you know there is a link to the APOD topic on the main page? It took me several weeks before I saw that! Scroll down and it's on the left sidebar, under the heading "Daily Forum Threads".
To: graycamel
Congratulations brother and welcome to Freerepublic! Sure is good to hear from you!
I trust that school is going fairly well. Sounds like the workload isn't getting any easier. How about coming up here for Thanksgiving weekend? I have that 4-day weekend off.
Yeah, I love the physical sciences. Astronomy most of all.
To: petuniasevan
Hi petuniasevan-what a day. Yep FR was down most of the day. But even in the short time we were here, there was genuine interest in the APOD thread. You should get some new lurkers if not pingees...I know for a fact Pippin and Mama_Bear want to be added to your ping list.
I think about a month or so ago JimRob added APOD and a couple of other daily threads to that list of which you speak. Pretty neat...
Alas, I mentioned earlier that you were to be honored here two days in a row but that is no longer so. Billie is not doing her new "collage" till Tuesday but when she does, you and poorman will be featured in that very neat photo.
To: WVNan; daisyscarlett
I am as surprised as can be.
Of all days for graycamel to FINALLY register and post like I've been nagging him to do...
He's my brother. He's living in Missouri and is a student at Southwestern Missouri State University.
He decided a couple of years ago to go back to college and further his education. I'll let him expound on that if he likes.
College is never easy, especially when you are a "return" student. You actually have to learn how to learn all over again!

Thanks to you all....It was a great day and a great week on the Finest Thread. Thanks to you all.
Mama_Bear will be here tomorrow to post the weekend thread and links to all profilees from this week in case ya missed any...

Hello, all!
This is an e-mail I sent to people this afternoon while FR was bogged down. Everyone else gets to see it now!
"This is going to be a bit jumbled because that's how my thoughts are, still. I talked with Richard's dad yesterday at lunchtime. Meek was downstairs having lunch when I got through to the hospital. Rich's dad (John Paul, goes by Paul) is in Swedish Medical Center in Englewood. The address is 501 E. Hampden Ave., Englewood, CO, 80110. The phone is (303)788-5000. He is in room 269A on the 4th floor.
When I was talking with Paul this afternoon, I had a hard time keeping my composure. It was just so good to know he is doing well. As it turns out, Paul only needs a padded brace for his neck...the fracture wasn't serious. He will need quite a bit of cosmetic work to fix the damage to his left arm, but his doctor at home will do most of it. Paul said he expects to head home with Richard sometime around the middle of next week.
Swedish Medical Centers have a web page (www.swedishhospital.com) from which you can send e-mail to patients. I plan to do that when I get home this evening.
As we were talking, Paul told me one thing I said, "Praise the Lord!", stood out and was the reason he walked away from the accident. Seems like he's a man of faith."
Good Night!

Thanks for the welcome. It's nice how everyone has that comfortable feeling - everyone seems to know everyone. You all have made me feel right at home.
I had a time of it finding my way back here yesterday. I rebooted a couple times thinking it was me, but never could get in. Finally gave up in frustration. Today seems fine.
I love the graphics you post. Thanks again for the welcome. I will be back.
