>His notes in garbled English just show that he was one of the millions of sub-par-educated Americans.
That's a bit dismissive. I've noticed how many folk have posted that view, however, the use of bad grammar and punctuation in a criminal communiqué is a known tactic to hide the existence of advanced education, and muddle up the style of composition thus making analysis and possible recogniton of the perp through his writing that much harder if not impossible. It's definately something to take into account.
Not picking at you personally - just saw an assumption posted one too many times, is all.
Moscow-audience in theater taken hostage. Know this doesn't belong here, but is similar to threats issued by sniper per news media.

DeBug, while that could be true in some cases, in this case I just don't see it; why would he ask for a bank transfer to a DOMESTIC account?? I am no banker but even I know that there is no way a criminal can get money out of a suspect USA account without getting busted. He has repeatedly asked for this money. He can't be as smart as we give him credit for. I think the smartest ideas and techniques are right here on FR, giving the guy more credit than he deserves.
