What, they can't determine ballistics in Tacoma? Can't they just extract a few shells, find out if they're .223, and e-mail Moose et al a few files?

Is it just me, or does it seem that the stump's emergency flight is meant mainly for drama? What am I missing? Will the (in)famous stump be displayed one day in the Smithsonian?
