About the fourth time I have heard that....

Shell casings don't usually imbed themselves in tree trunks.

Is this sloppy terminology? Do they mean bullets? - Or shell casings buried under a tree or in the ground?

I would guess sloppy terminology. Heck, look at all the grammatical errors in the tickers all the time. ;-)
